Thursday Art Date: Playing Hooky! & πŸŽ‡ A Blog Announcement! πŸŽ‡

Welcome my Friends, to Thursday's Art Date (posted on Wednesdays)!! 😊😊 Today our theme is Playing Hooky! Following the prompt is optional! Please feel free to share any of your art, we would love to see it!

Bugs and Daffy are playing hooky from work today! These big time movie stars can pretty much get away with anything can't they?

πŸŽ† PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR A QUICK BLOG ANNOUNCEMENT! πŸŽ†

I tried my hand at anime faces for Nicole's Friday Face-Off this week! This wasn't easy for me! Anime (aa-nim-ay) is Japanese animation, very expressive art that uses imagery to tell a story. You'll recognize this style of art usually by the big expressive eyes! I'm also joining in with Gillena's Art For Fun Friday! Why not share more of your creativity there?

I did a very easy acrylic silhouette painting inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. Some of you may recognize this style, I've done it quite often, it's based on Bob Ross' style of painting!

On the video front:

For Rain Frances Art, I'm sharing the real-time lesson for Little Red Riding Hood.

For Rain Frances Art For Kids, here is How To Draw Jam On Toast! Btw, my How To Draw Ice Cream video has gotten nearly 5000 views as I type this! Pretty neat!

And for Rain's Kitchen and Garden, I'm sharing a few videos! The first is How To Make Strawberry Simple Syrup.

And How To Prune, Harvest and Transplant Grocery Store Basil Plants.

For Kathy's last Food Wednesday post, I've got my Pancakes with that delicious Strawberry Simple Syrup.

I had LOTS of strawberries to eat this week. I found 3 pounds for $10 at the local market. Since the squirrels pretty much snacked on all of mine, I decided to buy some! This is Homemade Goat Cheese on my Homemade Baguettes with strawberries and a little bit of that strawberry simple syrup!

And some Thin Crust Pizza!

That's all for now folks! Please check out the link widget below for more artistic creations! See you soon!!! πŸ’— πŸ’—

  1. I love all your art today, but I must say you have drawn those big expressive anime eyes just PERFECTLY! I've never tried my hand at anime but it has certain artistic tropes that I like very much -- especially for portraying emotion in eyes!

  2. Lovely art and food. See you at the Art and Dinner dates then!

  3. Thanks for visiting my blog (and commenting). Hey! We both featured thin crust pizza! You have good taste my friend.
And the strawberries are to die for. Our season was very early (we have hot climate in southern Spain) so they are no longer readily available and I don't want to buy anything with too many food miles. When it's out of season, I stop eating it. (Buy that doesn't stop my mouth watering at the sight of those lovely strawberries and the simple syrup.
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  5. I really enjoyed this post very much Rain. I remember watching Bob Ross years ago when I was much younger, and never had the courage to try painting back then. I am loving this one so am going to try this-and I love wolves too.
Your recipes look so delicious too, I miss getting fresh strawberries-we were so hot here not sure if their were any good local grown ones here. I saved some of your recipe to my pinterest boards I will be trying the thin crust pizza for my husband Happy Thursday's art date hugs from the lake

  6. Rain, best of luck regarding your announcement and you sure are keeping busy *an understatement). I watched the video on transplanting basil and it was interesting to learn the correct way to prune it. Right now, we have a supermarket basil plant in our window. We trim the leaves for use in tomato salads or with a sliced tomato and Mozzarella cheese on a plate. Years ago, when we had fresh basil in our outdoor garden, we would trim the tops when they started flowering and we would continue to have fresh basil. The supermarket variety has never flowered indoors.

Of course, all the food pics were delicious looking. The baguette and goat cheese with simple strawberry syrup was an unusual take on pizza.

  7. Congratulations on adding the foodie date to your art date. Your strawberry syrup looks yummy as does the goat cheese meal. I am amazed at how many of our young people know who Bob Ross is. My 16 yr old grand is well aware of him. Always enjoyed his happy little shows

  8. I loved the video about how to paint Little Red Riding Hood and it motivated me to watch Bob Ross with this paper towel technique right after that. I always look so effortless. I think I need to try that technique, the background it creates is beautiful. Thank you for all the videos.

  9. Your Little Red Riding Hood and the woof is a great picture. It's wonderfully eerie.

  10. I know everyone will ogle over the pizza, but I was concerned about the basil. I plant my basil from seed and it is already tall enough to harvest. I believe I am also in a 5 zone, but my garden is HOT every day. The only things I'm growing this year are herbs, so I enjoyed how you taught everyone to cut their basil. Friday I'm having haircut day, which means I'll be cutting some of my plants back.

I'm going to try to visit and post (link) on Thursday, hopefully with both art and food. However, there are SO many who are sharing, it is going to be rather hard, since I post every day.

  13. Hello Rain,
Love the cute images of Bugs and Daffy, well done. The anime face looks great to me. Your pancakes, bread and pizza look so yummy. I have been enjoying strawberries here too. Take care, enjoy your day!

  14. Hi Rain. I am skipping the promt today, had much fun with ink :) Love your kayaking fellows. I used to have a kayak and I miss it :(

  15. I am quite sure my eyes were as big as those animΓ© eyes as I watched some of the revelations on the January 6 hearing, and I hope Trump's eyes will be just as big when they finally indict him!

  16. I had to laugh at your first piece-with the director asking where Bugs and Daffy are. Yup, they are playing hooky. Maybe their weather is as nice as what we're having here in NH and they just would rather be outside enjoying rather than in the studio. Oh and strawberries on pancakes-yum, yum, yum. And your pizza looks delicious. We made pizza the other night. It's a frequent staple in my house too. Have a great week Rain. hugs-Erika

  17. Rain,

Howdy-hi, dear friend! I'm sorry for being such a lousy bloggy pal. I love this week's theme and your artwork which always inspires me, especially your Looney Tune characters. Hopefully before the year is over I'll be back on track with the Thursday art dates and I'd very much like to get involved with Nicole's face-off challenge. We'll just have to wait to see how time goes. Congrats on the 5k views with your How To Draw Ice Cream vid! That's marvelous. Your strawberry sauce syrup sounds delicious. Incidentally when making strawberry sauce for strawberry short cake, do you know of anything other than corn starch to use that won't leave the sauce milky looking as a thickener? Gotta dash, but I'll be sure to check out your blog announcement. Thanks for popping in on Monday's Music Moves Me to say hello. :) Have a boogietastic day!😘

  21. I'm linking up a couple this time -- I've been too delinquent. I suppose anytime I'm doing art I'm sort of playing hooky!

  27. Dearest Rain,
I first had to get a translation what "Playing Hooky!" means. I think it's the same as what we call "blau machen" ("making blue") in German: not going to work or school, taking a day off (even "illegally") - right? Then my photos today also fit the topic, because today you get to see holiday photos of me - most of the time very relaxed - and of course everything was completely legal ;-DDD I like your drawings and paintings very much, AND the delicious strawberry food photos :-9
Happy weekend and hugs from Austria,
    Traude

  35. Your Looney Toons are just fabulous, Rain ... and always humorous which starts us out in a good mood. Love your face for Friday Face Off. Such a cute expression. And I did your tutorial on the silhouette painting and got some great ideas ... Love all of your tutorials. I love learning new methods, I only wish I had the time to do more art ... but life isn't always what we want it to be. I really admire that you are able to do so much in a weeks time ... Yes, and of course your food recipes are great. I love the idea of the simple syrup. And now the berries are in season so it's a good time to try it out. Thank you for helping me with the spam ... I did find two of David's comments and many others including some of yours. I will be checking more closely from now on. Stay well, Rain ...
