Scribble Picnic and Drawing Challenge

Hi Everyone :)

This week's Scribble Picnic theme is Table Cloth (follow the link to join in or for more lovely scribbles!). I had no clue what to do for this theme for the longest time, then it came to me while I was watching Disney's Fantasia with Alex. I figured why not paint some lucky person watching the Winter Fairies etch pretty designs on the frozen lake? :) Since it's a formal affair, the table cloth had to be a little luxurious too, likely woven by some generous elves in their spare time. :)

I've been really enjoying the daily drawing challenge and love the encouragement I'm getting from people, so thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I'm so insecure about drawing! I chose MONSTERS...bwah ha ha ha....as my theme for this week's drawings...well, I have about 15 in mind, so it might spill over to next week too! Here they are so far!

And because I had table cloths and monsters on the brain, today's drawing is this one:

This took three attempts!! I LOVE Bugs Bunny...can't get enough of this character. Alex downloaded all of the Looney Tunes shorts and programs from the 30's all the way up to the 60's. We watch them very often!

Here is a You Tube clip of that scene for you to enjoy! Do you like the Looney Tunes? Which is your favourite character?

During Yoga. Jack is by my head all the time, keeping watch I suppose! Pavlov is always so curious when I'm lying down on the yoga mat lol! It's hard to keep a straight face when I open my eyes to these two.

Mmmm...Baked Enchiladas...

Isn't this gorgeous? No photo altering at all! Yesterday it rained, then we had freezing rain with temperatures just below freezing. It made for a wonderful layer of fog in the park by the river. Of course, that doesn't last too long, it's down to the minus teens again today. Hope you're all keeping warm!

  1. LOVE THIS picture!!! :) And of course I like the monsters! Who wouldn't! :)

Love Looney Tunes and the shows! I grew up watching them! My favorite characters are Witch Hazel and Marvin the Martian! :)Witch Hazel especially....

LOL Jack and Pavlov! I love the look on Pavlov's face! Very concerned! Jack has the side eye which means he's concerned but he doesn't want you to know it! Our Tucker gets that look! :)

Those baked enchiladas look yummy!!! I like mexican food.

Now that is a gorgeous photo! Magazine worthy I'd say!

  3. Wow, that is some white out. Mother Nature is amazing. I love your scribble; it's like Fantasia and Tinker Bell in one. The enchiladas look delicious. I love melted cheese.
Thank you so much for your wonderful opinion and words of support. It made me smile and made me feel good. You totally hit the nail on its head.

  4. WOW....that pic looks COLD! Loving both your drawings of the tablecloth. I tell you this one had me thinking for a week only to come up with it yesterday. I even started out drawing one and did not like it. Great job Rain.

  5. you did a wonderful job with the tablecloth theme!!!! beautiful work,,and the dogs keeping watch is exactly what my dogs and cats did, anytime we went down on the floor for any reason, cleaning, exercise they always thought is was playtime!!! that photo of the fog is so beautiful,, its very romantically beautiful!

  6. I like the fog photo, has a real cold look to it. You would probably be good at charcoal drawings, I learned how to make my own charcoal from willow twigs. I haven't drawn in a long time, I still draw sketches for projects I build but that is about all these days.

  7. I like that bugs bunny drawing - it's so much fun and it's just perfect for the SP theme.

    have a lovely day.

  8. The Chicken Hawk character was one of my favorites.

I enjoy all your sketches; the monsters are fun, but the tablecloth theme was lovely.

  9. I love your take on the tablecloth picture!
That last photo is great, sure looks cold!

  10. Fun to see your painting and sketches.
Drawing every day is a great challenge. I try to do that, but not so much the last couple of weeks.

Fun how the critters or children thing that when we get on the ground they are to be included.

Yum to those enchiladas. I think it is dinner time for me.
And yes, a lovely serene photo.

  11. Ohhhhh the winter faeries picture is so pretty. I just love that scene!!!!

And your last photo of the mist/fog/dragon's breath, is great. We had wild fog here too, but I could not get a (make me happy) photo of it. But it was quite wild. We get fog in the morning some time, and it goes away later. But not yesterday!!!!

    Oh yummmmmm, your foooood.

And your doggies are so cute. They are curious because you are usually upright. "What is she doing????????" ,-))))

  12. Oh Rain...what a hoot. The Bugs Bunny video...still laughing. Your drawing in blues is rich and magical with fairies and that is a luxurious tablecloth.

Your slice of life, and doggies are always a treat.

  13. What a lovely idea, all the fantasy and elegance. And, then you turned around and did right the opposite, a cute, funloving cartoon table with Bugs Bunny. My, my, love the way your creativity works.

  14. Ha, I think I've actually seen that clip before. So love Loony Tunes. Reminds me of a time as a boy when I turned 13 where my older sister took me and some friends to the cartoon cinema they used to have in Victoria train Stn way back in the day and all they played were Loony Tunes' classic cartoons. So memorable and the first time at a movie house. No one today even knows that was ever there.

I love your interpretation for this theme. A clever way to do it with that magical, so Rain like scene! Well done and THANK YOU!

I did not do a new sketch today s I counted the one for Scribble Picnic complated for today since I want to leave that up front and centre for the rest of Wednesday but back at it tomorrow. As it is, still doing art every day! I've really enjoyed seeing your monsters and am soooo wondering what others you have in mind. Wereworl maybe or how a bout Mothman or, ooh, SlenderMan!

  15. I don’t think you should keep a straight face when you see those faces. It’s hilarious and what better medicine is laughter?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Rain, your art work is really getting good. I could always see your artistic touch, but the more you do the better you get! The baked enchiladas look fantastic, BTW. :)

  17. Your monster artwork is spooktacular! HEHEHE...I couldn't resist :)

And Bugs Bunny! That is amazing. Spot on. I used to watch The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour with my brothers when we were kids. Such a hilarious show.

HAHAHA! I laughed out loud with Jack and Pavlov. I wonder what they think when we're doing stuff like that? They must think we're weird...lol... The other day I was trying to do some sit ups and the kitten decided I was there to serve her, so she sat on my chest. LOL

I've been running across a lot of Mexican food photos/recipes/posts in the past few days! Or maybe I'm just noticing them more. It's probably a reminder that I haven't had any for a very long time.

  18. That's such a magical scene with the fairies on the ice. I'd love to see that show myself. You nailed this not just once, but twice with your Bugs Bunny rendition. That tree in the frozen fog is so ethereal. Great capture!

  19. Nice job on Bugsy! He is and always has been my favorite cartoon character (Pinky and the Brain are a close second). Such a smart-ass, bless him. I have given up trying to do yoga because my lot don't just stare at me, they must lie on me. They must actively participate. That last photograph is just beautiful. We've had the same weather, although I didn't enjoy it, having had to drive in it. I'd much rather enjoy it from the cosiness of my living room!

  20. What a pretty tablecloth, as well as the etched design on the ice!
My favorite Looney Tunes character was probably Tweety, but I enjoyed watching them all.
No dogs in this house, but my Siamese cat acts in a similar way if I get down on the floor!

  21. Hi Rain, Beautiful picture of the tree! Would be nice to frame and hang on the wall. Makes me smile inside to think about your dogs looking you in the face like that when you do yoga! Nancy

  22. Gosh, I wish I had 1/8 of the drawing talent you do. You continue to impress me with your ability to create such lovely drawings. Even your monsters are cute to my eye.

  23. The ice skaters are beautifully done - I would enjoy sitting at that table too!

Meanwhile Rain, I'm loving that photo of the tree - it's amazing and would be gorgeous blown up, framed, and hanging! Perhaps you'll think of doing that - maybe even offer prints for sale! Let me know if you do please.

  24. Thanks Dianna :) Oh Witch Hazel!!! Lovely lady except she always wants to put Bugs in a pot doesn't she lol? I love monsters...though I wouldn't want to necessarily meet one unless there was shatter proof glass between us!! :) LOL, yeah, Jack never wants to show his true feelings, but sometimes I catch him off guard and he turns into mush. Oh thanks...that tree is my favourite on in the park and it begged for a good photo!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks Christine :) I think Bugs is a favourite among many people, he's such a stinker! :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks Stefanie :) I love every moment of Fantasia and I've been wanting to paint the winter fairies for a while now! Oh, and you're welcome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks Pam :) Yeah...I had a tough time with this theme too, but we all got our ideas, I do love your photo. When I took that photo it was just around freezing, but that dampness from the fog went right through me.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you Laurie :) It's true, when Pavlov is staring down at me, his tale is wagging like crazy lol...he really does think it's playtime! And I agree, the fog and the tree...the snow, it does have a lot of romance in it!

  29. Hi Gill :) I never thought of charcoal. I think I would like that because it's very much like painting I guess! I will try that, thanks for the suggestion! Next time I'm in town, I'll have to find some charcoal at the art store.

  30. Thanks Lissa :) I love Bugs and I'm happy I remembered that scene with the table cloth! :)

  31. Hi TPals :) Thanks! The monsters are fun for me. :) Oh the Chicken Hawk, such a little tough guy isn't he? I LOVED Foghorn Leghorn!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Debra :) Bugs was a great character. I want to be him when I grow up lol!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks Jenn :) It's much colder today at -20, but when that damp air comes in, gosh it really makes for a cold atmosphere!

  34. Hi Tammie Lee :) I'm really trying hard to keep up the daily drawing. I'm posting on Instagram and the support is wonderful, it keeps me going! :) I hope to see more of your drawing soon, they are always so lovely! :)

  35. Hi Wisps of Words :) It's hard to take a photo of fog...but I'm very lucky! Alex got me a really great camera a few years ago, so if I play around with the settings enough, I can get some great photos! The dogs are hilarious...I can almost predict when Pavlov will start to get up, stretch, then hover over me lol!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi Wanda :) I'm glad you liked the clip, I can't get enough of Bugs' broken Italian accent...I keep singing that song over and over! And thank you, I was happy to get to my watercolours after a few days of drawing! :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thank you Latane :) That is very sweet! My mind is all over the place! It was great timing because we were watching some Looney Tunes and that drawing idea came to mind! :)

  38. Thanks TB :) Thanks for your support, it helps build my confidence!!

  39. Thank you Michael :) I admit I had some trouble with the theme, but I think that the "seemingly" simple themes have most of us baffled and we have to really use our creativity, so thank YOU! :) That's really neat about seeing the Looney Tunes in the theatre...I would love that. One of the dreams we have for our future home is a huge flat screen tv where we can watch movies and cartoons lol! Hmmm..one of the three monsters you mentioned is on my mind! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Birdie :) Yes! Laughter is wonderful, and kills any stress and negativity. I can't be all "yogatic" when they're hovering over me like that! :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thank you so much Leigh! :) The support all of you guys are giving is so wonderful! :) The enchiladas...omg...well, melted cheese, need I say more? :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi Martha :) LOL SPOOKTACULAR!!! And I thought my mind went macabre only around Halloween! LOL! I love the drawing. At first it was stressful, but I'm getting the hang of it! I'm quite sure all of the pets (and neighbours too) think I'M VERY WEIRD lol...yoga or not! ha ha. That's funny about your little kitty...it's like "mommy and me" yoga! I think that the Universe is telling you it's time to eat some Mexican food! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thank you Lorraine :) I would love to see the show too, except it's usually done under the cloak of darkness! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks Susan :) I knew you'd appreciate the Bugs drawing! :) He is my hero as well lol... Ha ha...if I had all 8 pets wanting to lie on me during yoga, I would likely give up too lol...I have no doors on my office so it's a free for all. Oh no, I would NOT be loving the foggy weather if I had to drive in it either!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thank you Jolene :) Tweety...did you know his original name is "Tweetie Pie"? We watched a bunch of documentaries and we got the Mel Blanc book. It's very interesting to read about the characters!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thank you Nancy :) It's very endearing to have the pack all hover around me...it's funny but I love their curiosity too. They do stop me though sometimes because I can't help just hugging them and petting them!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh thank you Marsha :) I'm glad you like my monsters too! They are all bark and no bite! :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh Mary, thank you! That is very nice of you! It's interesting you know, I never think of my photos as something others might want too, I'll think of you if I do this though! :) Quite a nice compliment :) I would love to sit at that table and watch the fairies!! :)

  49. gosh, Rain. I don't know what I enjoyed most. The picture inspired by Fantasia, the picture of the snow, the one of the dogs, the food.... No wonder you get more comments than anyone else I know on your posts. There's always variety and it's always intriguing.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi Harry :)) Thank you so much!! :) I think I enjoyed the melted cheese the most lol...Pavlov came in as a close second!! :) As you know, this are is way too tourist-friendly for my liking...but I have to say, being by a river and lake with our mountain weather makes for some amazing photo opportunities when it's mild an foggy in the winter!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. The Fantasia-inspired picture is so lovely, I love how it's a beautiful, complete scene all in the color blue (my favorite!). And that tree photo is indeed brilliant! Your other drawings are wonderful too, I love seeing them. I LOVED Looney Tunes growing up, my girlfriends and I were obsessed with Tweety Bird!:)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thank you Rachel :) I'm very much into the blues lately for the watercolours. I sometimes pull out a bit of white, but mostly it's one colour with lots of different hues, it works so well with this medium! :) Ah, Tweety...you just want to save him! :) Mean old Sylvester... ;)

  53. OMG, I haven't seen Bugs Bunny in years. I loved the little cartoon and your drawing of it. I laughed at your mat eye view of your dogs ... they are so much fun. I don't know what life would be like without our pets. I am doing the drawing challenge as well, but haven't been able to figure out how to post them. By the time I do, I will be loaded, Ha! Great fun as always, Rain ... Hope it warms up a bit for you.
