Blog Comments

Here are a few of the 66 tomatoes that are finally turning red! :) I see salsa in my future... ;)

And my very first sugar pumpkin...do you think it'll have enough time to ripen?

Blog Comments:  My friends, I'm sorry to say this, but I have to turn off the "anonymous" comment feature for my blog. I don't know what the heck happened, but I woke up the other morning to over 800 comments (no joke!!!) from "Anonymous"...everything from graphically violent attacks, to bigotry to the likes of the Nigerian Prince scam of the 1990's. I even got comments saying that the Federal Government is suing me for tax evasion lol...

And all throughout the last few days I keep getting hundreds more on various posts on my blogs.

This doesn't worry me at all, I know they are just randomly generated, but it's just annoying, so I'm going back to only allowing comments from people with Google accounts. I know that some of my followers don't have accounts with Google, but I hope you understand. I just don't have the time to moderate comments when I'm getting so many spam ones.

This also applies to my other two blogs: Rain's Thoughts and Rainy Day Cheese Making...both of which I intend to resume after Labour Day as well! :)

If you don't want to open a Gmail account, I totally get that, but if you want to contact me, you can always use the Contact Form on my sidebar! I'm also on Instagram.

Thanks for understanding! :)

Did you click on something somewhere or upset the blog mafia or something? :)

  6. Hi Rain, what a lot of information you've put together in your last posts. Thank you, there's a lot to think about when it comes to caring for our pets. Your tomatoes look wonderful and I think you're a canning queen :D Take care.xxx

  7. Oh my, what a bummer! I hope that this raid on your blogs comes to a stop.

  8. That’ definitely upsetting! I see Blogger no longer filters the anonymous spam into a separate folder which is very disappointing, but as I moderate all comments I get rid of those during posting my nice comments from friends.
Things change daily it seems in the high tech world and only the young can keep up with it all!

  9. At least someone is getting tomatoes from their garden. They look great. Yeah, there are some very strange people out there that like to attack blogs. Glad you got it adjusted.

  10. They found you, Rain, even though you hide up in the Laurentians. LOL I haven't had that problem yet with commenting and I hope I never do. It can be so annoying! My plan is to be back to blogging after labour day weekend, as well. I have my fingers crossed that I do. Truth is, I've enjoyed this blog break way more than I thought I would and will probably implement it from time to time.

  11. Hi Jenn, lol...those Nigerian Princes lol...

  12. Sandi, that really made me laugh, the blog mafia ha ha!

  13. Hi Yarrow :) Thanks! I'm still tweaking the pet's food here and there too. I'll get it right eventually! The canning is so much fun, I have plans to do a lot more! :)

  14. Hi Starting Over :) Thanks, me too. Eventually I may test it to see, if I still keep getting them, I'd rather keep things safe!

  15. Hi Mary :) I was thinking of moderating the comments, but even moderating them with that many span ones...I think it would push me over the edge to give up blogging!

  16. Hi Kristina :) The first comment said something like they love my blog and wish I had a "donate" button. Then the others were all nasty and offensive! I've seen other blogs getting the same thing. Maybe one day it'll cool off, for now I don't even want to see them! Oh, I'm sorry you aren't getting tomatoes!!! We had a really hot summer this year, not like last year when I got maybe 6 or 7.

  17. Hi Martha :) Yes...they found me, ugh! I hope you never have that problem. It's a quick fix, but I know some of my friends do leave comments anonymously so that kind of sucks. I've enjoyed the blogging break too actually, I don't like being tied to the computer in the summer at all, but it's really nice to catch up! :)

  18. Don't blame you, Rain. Yikes - that's a lot of anonymous comments! I don't get that many, so I'm able to easily (so far) manage them by setting my comments to moderation for 3 days after my post gets published. Most legitimate comments happen in that window of time, and for some reason all of the SPAM anonymous comments (so far) have come in after that time, so they get caught that way. Usually once a week (or when I create a post) I check the folder for comments awaiting moderation, and that's where the anonymous ones land (if Google didn't already catch them and put them into a SPAM folder). There are a couple of anonymous comments I've let stay on my blog (one is a long-ago friend, and another was a friendly comments that didn't have a link, so I figured it was legitimate.

All that said, though... I did notice last week that I had a real rush of anonymous comments. Not 800, but probably 15-20 in a week's time - which seemed like a lot all of a sudden. 800??? Yowza!

  19. Hi Becki :) I think that's a good idea to moderate them after a few days. I was always getting anonymous comments about a week after I would post a blog, about 50 each day and it would taper off after a few days, so I had mine to moderate comments 7 days after I posted. But after that 834 count the other morning, it was just enough! I have a few friends who comment anonymously, but they always sign their names. I just couldn't go through that many comments, so I may have even deleted some good comments in there. :(

  20. (What I said on your other blog....)

    Of course it is understandable!

And as far as Anon. people go, they simply have to make a Blogger Profile. If they want to communicate. That's it!!!!!!

I have the time, to moderate my comments, and I don't get that many anyway. You are very busy with life, and do not have the time.

    It is your call!!!!!!

    I *sezzzzzzzzzzzz*! >,-)))))

    Hugssssssssss...

  21. Also wondering, how in the world you have the time, to reply here, to every comment made here?!?!?!?!?!

No need to answer!!!! I do not want to add, to your load!!!!!! :-))))) Hugssssss...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Wisps of Words :) Thank you for your support! You're right. It's not a huge deal to just make a gmail account is it? :) You are not adding to my load whatsoever!! I have a little down time as I'm waiting for my bread to rise! I brought the laptop out to the porch so I'm enjoying the sunshine AND my friends comments! :) And I have snoring dogs and cats all around me so I'm happy as a clam right now. :))

  23. Annnnd, just to add to the worry, sigh.....

Some of the ^&(*&^%##%^ commenters get a blogger profile. Have you ever seen them?

So just a word to the wise, not even getting rid of anon. can fully protect you.

    Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh yes, Wisps of Words...I can recognize those pretty quickly, they usually have some kind of weird link that I don't even touch; and it's easy to put them into the spam folder. It's just the anonymous ones are hard to manage.

  25. We have a billion tomatoes ripening on the vine. I can’t wait for tomato sandwiches.

  26. Hi Birdie :)) Oh yes, we had some BLT's last night with lotsa mayo! Yum!!! :)

  27. The tomatoes and pumpkin look great! A while ago, my Mum put some seeds from tomatoes she'd bought into her garden bed. Two types - Cherry and Gourmet — and now, they are both bearing heaps of tomatoes!

I have had my Comment settings at Google accounts only (used to be User ID accounts, I think) for a long time now. When I used to accept Anonymous accounts, things were okay for the most part as Blogger's Spam filter seemed to work quite well. I would only get the occasional spam comments sneaking through the filter but even that annoyed me so I switched over. I know it can limit readers being able to comment but spam/anonymous comments are a huge annoyance. And they can always comment by email. I might add my email address to the bottom of all my posts to make it easier for them. :)

I hope you have a lovely weekend!

  28. Hi Serena :) I have two little sugar pumpkins and three "Halloween" pumpkins, it's very exciting!!! :) I used to have it on Use ID Accounts too, but I guess Blogger has changed things a bit. It's just not worth having the Anonymous setting when there is so much spam. I have a contact form, people can contact me if they want. Just not anonymously anymore!! Too many bored loser trolls out there lol! :)

  29. Rain, I have to screen things - in my case, I use the review comments befor posting function but not nearly as crazy as it sounds like you had.

That said, I have noticed a spike in my views, which I mostly attribute to spammers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I broke down a few years ago and spent money on a spam catcher plugin for my blog. It does a very good job too. I do check periodically to make sure no legit comments have gotten caught, and its only caught a couple in the couple years I've been using it.

The garden looks good! Here's hoping the weather holds long enough for the pumpkin to ripen!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi TB :) I sometimes see that too, after I post something, I suddenly have hundreds of instant views...spammers suck! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Ruth :) That's not a bad idea about the spam catcher. I'm sure those spammers, aka losers living in their mother's basements, will find a way around that some day too though lol...Thanks! I do hope that little pumpkin ripens!! :)

  33. Sorry you had to deal with that. WP is good about filtering spammers out but I have to copy/paste words into the discussion settings to block them. Other than that, your tomato plants look awesome. My neighbor recently gave us a few tomatoes from her harvest; they were really good. She said they were easy to grow.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks Stefanie :) The tomatoes are very easy to grow, as long as I start them indoors in April. Mind you, the weather has to cooperate too. Last summer I started them in April and the harvest was so poor due to a cold and rainy summer. This year we have so much sunshine! I'm very grateful for that!! :)
