Thursday Art Date: Fine Arts - Surrealism

Hello Friends! 😊😊

Firstly, thank you so much for all of the love you showed me last week, it meant a lot. I left thank you's on your blogs, but to those who don't have blogs, CynthiaInOlympia, Celie and Tewshooz - I really appreciated your comments, thank you for your love and support. It's getting easier, but I really miss Marlene so much. ♥♥♥ I'll be by to visit your art date posts for the last two weeks; and everyone's blogs this weekend. πŸ’—

"The Son Of Rabbit"

So.....welcome to Thursday's Art Date ☺, today our theme is Fine Arts: Surrealism. Bugs Bunny posed as RenΓ© Magritte this week for a version of his self-portrait titled The Son of Man.

By the way - for those who don't know, if you click on the links at the end of the post where I list upcoming art dates, you'll be brought to pages where I explain the theme and show image examples - might inspire you! You can also click on the links on my right side bar as well.

Here's my self-portrait for the theme of Surrealism. This was mixed media: ink, graphite, Sharpies and watercolour paint.

I decided to keep busy busier this week and created some art for the last two weeks I missed. This is my Pop Art Looney Tunes drawing, you can always click on the photo to enlarge it. I drew the cans but used Photoshop to finish the cans with fonts I found online, the "Campbells Soup Font" for the word Acme, and the "Acme" font for the description of the contents of the cans. Lots of fun.

And my self-portrait for Pop Art. Debra said I was the tomato queen so that gave me the idea to be a Tomato Superheroine! I drew the image of myself, but used Photoshop for the yellow dotted Pop Art background and font. It's actually called "Wonder Woman" font!

Speaking of tomatoes, this is about 120 of the 140 pounds of tomatoes: pizza sauce, salsa, spaghetti sauce and plain canned tomatoes. We are set for the winter. The other 20 pounds are in the freezer.

I also had the chance to can some carrots, beets, mushrooms, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. I also froze a few packs of celery and a whole cabbage. If the prices are still good next time I go shopping, I'm loading up again. I want to shop from my pantry this winter as much as possible!

Here is my Looney Tune drawing for the theme Sculpture. It's a rendition of Discobolus by the sculptor Myron.

And my self-portrait for "Sculpure"...me as Medusa! I've had days like that! I'm glad to say I didn't get a very accurate likeness of myself! Don't look too long though, I don't want to turn you into stone! ☺

Here are some links to my latest uploads on YouTube, I'm sorry I neglected to add some of these to last week's post:

You can click on the photos or the links below if you'd like to watch them:

Let's Draw Kiefer Sutherland (real time)
Let's Paint a Silhouette by the Moon (real time)
Autumn Equinox and Mabon
The Wise Dog Tarot and a Tribute to Marlene

Food has all been about comfort....Cheesy Poutine

Chicken Burgers topped with mayo and honey Dijon mustard.

Mushroom Burgers - I mashed up the burger so it would be more like a sloppy joe! I usually make these with green onions, but I added my garlic scapes to the mix and it was really delicious!

This week's highlighted artist and or blogger is Nancy from Little Homestead in Boise blog. Nancy's blog is TOO underrated, she is such a sweet lady. She's a homesteader, has backyard chickens and practices self-sufficiency. I envy her preserving talent! She also has a very beautiful and cozy decorating style, as seen in the above photo of her fall decorations! Please visit her blog, you will learn a lot!

Thursday Art Date: Fine Art - Expressionism

Hello Friends! 😊😊

Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Fine Arts: Expressionism. I hope that this month of September's fine art themes will challenge you! It's certainly challenging me! Bugs Bunny decided that he wanted to pose for Edvard Munch's The Scream. Notice any fine details in the background? 😊

Expressionism depicts a feeling or emotion that the artist wants to convey or is feeling as he/she creates the artwork. I am going to do self-portraits for each theme in September, thanks to my friend TB for that idea! This week, I wanted to convey a very specific emotion in charcoal pencils on black art paper. What do you feel when you look at my piece?

I recorded myself drawing this in time-lapse, click on the photo or on this link to watch the video!

Speaking of videos, I also posted a real-time tutorial of my charcoal drawing of Mr. Spock. Click on the image or on this link to watch!

My spiritual channel is slowly gaining momentum! I'm so happy! Click on the photo or on this link to watch my latest video!

I had my second Covid shot on Monday and my gosh...the side effects were worse than the first time. I had a fever for 24 hours, dizziness, felt drugged up, nauseous and had a terrible headache. I prepare my Thursday posts on Wednesday afternoons usually and as I type this, I'm still feeling off. I hope to be better soon and I also hope I never have to go through this again, but I'm so happy it's done! I had the Pfizer shot btw. All I've been able to manage is looking out the window, watching the birds for the last 3 days.

I wanted to share these photos of a very beautiful sunrise - I've never seen a sky like this since I lived on Prince Edward Island, none of these photos were altered!! I was up so early, just after 5am and I had the dogs out with me. The coyotes were howling and the sun was rising...gosh it was beautiful! I found coyote poop just past my driveway this morning...they always leave their poop in the middle of roads and trails as a territorial gesture. The droppings are usually black...that's how you can tell. The ones I've seen lately are filled with blueberries! I'll have to keep an eye out from now on when I go out early in the mornings or late at night. (I hope you don't mind that I DIDN'T post the poop photo lol!)

Due to my loss of appetite, I don't have much to show for food this week! Since my oven crapped out on me months ago, I've been really missing my baked meals - especially pizza. I'm testing out a few recipes for toaster-oven pizza and I think I'm close to finding one that is really amazing!

This week's highlighted artist/blogger is Debra from She Who Seeks blog! Debra is a lovely lady, a very funny lady and her blog is always a treat to visit. She recently made my Fake Tiramisu recipe and it was such a fun post. Please visit her blog! πŸ’—

Thursday Art Date: Rough Textures

Hello Friends! 😊😊

Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Rough Textures. Today I'm going for art that is a little prehistoric! I'm thinking rough textures of the Jurassic period! Do you recognize who Bugs is channeling today?? The late, great, Steve Irwin. The Crocodile Hunter. Crocodiles, (according to Max Stockdale, a Vertebrate Macroevolution and Palaeoecology, associate of the University of Bristol) from 200 million years ago look surprisingly like the ones we know today. Though they kind of scare me, I think they are fascinating creatures!

Here is my croc in ink and graphite. I actually started to draw Steve Irwin, but got very distracted by pets and couldn't finish it. So I opted to draw a crocodile instead. Steve Irwin was a passionate fighter for the conservation of animals; and of animal rights - especially those of crocodiles! So sad that he passed away too soon!

Another prehistoric rough texture critter was the dinosaur. Here is Dino Flintstone! This is for you my friend Dino from Ridge Tails Blog!

My latest art tutorials are up on my YouTube channel! Click on the images above or the links below to check them out!

My latest video is also up on my Spiritual channel! If you'd like to see it, please click on the image or this link:

Red Riding Hood and Innocence

On the food front we are eating lots of cold meals, like salads and sandwiches. Corn is in season, yum! One afternoon of cool weather encouraged me to make a skillet Mac and Cheese (but I had no macaroni, so I used capellini!). I followed a recipe from Taste of Home that used Velveeta cheese. It was good, but I prefer my own cheese in the mix!!

I made a very easy strawberry shortcake. I've made it before with store-bought sponge cake. You just whip some cream, top the sponge cake, then add strawberries. I did add some rum into the cream before I whipped it, maybe a teaspoon, just for flavour!

Garden news! Give me a HIGH FIVE!!! SIXTY SEVEN bulbs of garlic are now harvested and hanging to cure in my basement! It smells like a diner down there! ☺ What the heck am I going to do with all that garlic???

I am finally getting some lettuce! I planted this in June...we've had so much rain, I wasn't expecting much.

The mint is growing like mad!

I've been working so hard outside lately, despite the heat wave. There is so much to do before winter. I moved 20 cinder blocks behind the wood shed...and I moved this entire pile of scrap wood from the front property to a place that edges the acreage.

This is the before and after. It took me 3 hours. Our intention was to burn it all, but with all the rain this summer, we couldn't keep a good fire going in the barrel. It'll sit in that pile until it either composts or we have conditions that will allow us to burn it!

The pets are all keeping cool and doing well! My daily walks with Charlie and Jack are the highlight of my mornings!

This week's highlighted artist/blogger is Heidrun from Soul and Mind and So On blog! Heidrun shares beautiful photos (like the one above), poetry and food for thought.  Please visit her blog! πŸ’—
