Scribble Picnic: Creams

Hi Everyone :)

Michael's theme for the Scribble Picnic today is "Creams". :) I remember back in grade school, it was very popular for the little bullies to say "I'm going to cream that guy after school, man...." Everyone was so tough in grade school weren't they? I always thought that boxing was a tough sport, but it often piqued my curiosity and I watched a lot of it. I was playing around with watercolours today and came up with this one for the theme of "creams". But that's not all folks! :)

I had to draw a Looney Tune! :) Porky Pig seemed to fit the bill for a triple scoop of ice cream! :) I haven't done too much drawing this last week because of the dreaded monthly shopping day, but I'm now catching up and it feels great to be creative again!

What's your favourite ice cream? I'd have to say hands down it's the Creamsicle for me, and for Alex too. Talk about two people who were meant to be together!! ;) That mix of orange and creamy vanilla gets me every time. I saw this image a few months back, it's called "Giant Pospsicles" by Tim Berg. I thought I'd try to paint my version of this ice cream treat:

...in an abstract watercolour way of course! :)

I guess I had ice cream on the brain last night too. I made some Hot Italian Sandwiches and fries with ice cream sodas for a real diner meal. So voilà, here is my contribution to the picnic this week! :)

Guess who is taking the day off COMPLETELY? ME! :) All I'm going to do today is draw and paint...and occasionally run outside to throw snowballs at that annoying nuthatch who wants to drill holes into the wall of the cottage.

By the way, an update on yesterday's post: No husky in the trap this morning. No hot dog touched. No new yellow snow in the back yard. I'm hoping that this dog is back home safe and sound! We will keep the trap for a few more weeks just in case though!

  1. I love the watercolour "cream" creation!
My favourite ice cream has always been mint chocolate chip.

  2. Love creamsicles!!!! My favorite too! Good for you for taking a day off! I need to do that very same thing! :)

  3. Have a fabulous day off! Can't wait to see what you create. :)

  4. Your abstract art is so cool. So happy looking.

My husband likes Creamsicle too. But not me. Chocolate is my favorite. And might as well add marshmellow and bits of chocolate to it. A local ice cream is that combo. And I adore it. But can very rarely have any.... -sighhhh-

Ohhhh the dinners you put on!!!!!!!!!!! Oh mercy they look so good!!!

    Complete day off! Wonderful!!!!!!!! Enjoy!!!!

  5. Oh yes, do keep that trap! That dog catcher won't want to take it, and then have to bring it around again. ,-)))))))))

  6. Enjoyed all your 'creamy' pieces today Rain. Sorry no husky in the trap.

  7. Your cream piece is cute.
Fun that you think of your love with the dreamcicle.

You might be careful trying to catch a dog, you might end up with another one ;-)

Nice that you are enjoying an art day.

  8. I need to stop looking at your blog! ;-) It makes me hungry!!!!!

    Those creamsicles... sigh!

  9. I am a creamsicle lover, too! Love the colors in the latest paintings - that green cream is dreamy. Too bad that you didn't trap that bad boy, as at least you wouldn't have to worry about running into him while you're out with the pack. Hope he has gone home to his bad owner. That meal is total comfort!!! Glad your shopping pilgrimage is over for the month, too.

  10. I had no idea so many other people were fond of Creamsicles! That was always my favorite as a child. I don't think they are available anymore around here. (Sob.)

The second I saw your first "cream" picture, I saw the two battlers going at each other. Fighting (boxing . . . ugh!) turns me off, but for some reason I rather like your painting.

When the picture of your dinner last night came up, I let out a groan. (I must be hungry.) It looks sooo good, but I don't think I'd be able to get in the ice cream soda with the sandwich and fries. (I could save it for later though, couldn't I?)

Ha, I've been trying to "take the day off" all week and haven't made it yet. What am I doing wrong?? ;o)

  11. Oh yes those creamsickles are wonderful, the first one I ever had was from the country store near our house about 55 years ago and I still remember the event.

  12. your creamy art is beautiful, I love the fluidity,, it just flooooows.
Creamcicles are my fave too,, second I really like the strawberry shortcake bars,, its the only ice cream I eat, hope that husky has returned to his home, sure would make things easier for you,,a caged mean dog is never a good thing!!
    That meal looks amazing!

  13. See now, that's a version of cream that I had not thought of. I love your blue watercolors. They really draw me in. Your creamsicles remind me of the custard that we buy at the beach during the summer. Vanilla and orange cream twist. Oooh, I could go for one of those right now!

  14. Rain, I think you may be The Cream of the Crop. Love all your illustrations. I had so many ideas, I decided to go with the thumbnail sketches.

You have a nice way with watercolors, and who wouldn't love Porky Pig with his triple scoop!!

    You meals always look delicious.

    Hugs

  15. ICE CREAM.......Lets all scream....ICE CREAM!!! haha.....I love it. Moose Tracks mostly but I pretty much like anything that has chocolate in it, but since my surgery, I can't eat much, it makes me sick. Loving your meals and how you present them.

  16. I love Creamsicles. In fact, this weekend, I am making Creamsicles floats. I use vanilla ice cream, orange sherbet, milk and a little vanilla. Put it all in the blender and instant yumminess. Jana

  17. Yes. Creamsicles. I've been doing very little sugar for over 6 months now and that painting nearly threw me off the wagon!! A big part of my childhood they were. The ice cream man tooling about in his little musical truck in our Chicago neighborhood. Ah, what a good life. Thanks for those memories

  18. i enjoyed seeing your art - porky is cute! my favorite is a seasonal ice cream, pepperment..yum. and next is any kind of salted caramel. your dinner looks good.

  19. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - Really, there is no other ice cream.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hiya Rain, we don’t call them fries - we call them chips over her!. Still, you Canadians are different to us Brits and I prefer the way YOU talk. I like lollies too. The trouble is that i’m such an addictive kind of guy I couldn’t stop at one. I’d eat the last one. Alex must look forward to mealtimes because they are best i’ve ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks Jenn :) I used to like chocolate chips in my ice cream until my teeth got too sensitive to bite down on them! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks Dianna :) I needed a day to just flop. It was good! :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks Tpals! :) I got some drawing and pastels done, I'll post them shortly! :) Thanks for your support :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks Wisps of Words :) I love anything chocolate too, but those Creamsicles are so good! The ice cream you describe sounds like Rocky Road, which is yummy too! :) You are right, that dog catcher will be too lazy to come back and re-set it up...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks Christine :) I think if the dog comes back, it'll be on a weekend, so we'll see in a few days.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks Tammie Lee :) Ha ha ha...you're so funny! If the dog were friendly that might the case hee he! :)

  27. Lol Sandi :) Thanks for that compliment! :)

  28. Hi Susan :) That meal was so good...I really enjoyed it for a change. We don't buy too many cold cuts because they have to be eaten right away, I don't like to freeze them, but this time it was all planned! I couldn't even finish mine! No husky yet!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Mama Pea :) Honestly, I haven't had a good Creamsicle in years. They had a "knock off" brand but it was awful. Breyers recently started to make a creamsicle-type of ice cream which I want to try to recreate this summer with the ice cream maker. It's really stupidly expensive to buy! Trust me, I couldn't finish the sandwich, I only had half. Alex ate the rest for a snack later! :)

  30. Hi Gill :) That sounds like a good memory. I remember going to a dairy nearby where we lived as a kid, we had fresh ice cream there...doesn't exist anymore, but the memory is a good one! :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks Laurie :) Strawberry shortcake anything!! Gimme!!! :) Well, so far we have nothing in the cage though one of the hot dogs is missing! We think it was likely a stray cat though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Lorraine :) The vanilla and orange cream twist sounds delicious! I'm so craving this right now lol...

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ha! Thanks Wanda, very cute! :)) I remember ordering triple scoops at the old ice cream parlours and always regretting it because it melted faster than I could eat it lol! :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi Pam :) Oh I had to look up Moose Tracks ice cream, oooh! I never heard of that before, I don't think we even have it here! I could eat the entire bucket of that ice cream! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hi Jana :) That float sounds delicious! I may steal that from you! :) Don't know if you have a blog, but I'd love to see a photo of that float when you make it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi Donna :) LOL...thank you, though I don't want to be responsible for throwing you off the sugar wagon! Good for you for cutting that down, I know it's not great for the health...I try not to make too many sugary things...try is the key word there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi Sandy :) Thanks :) Salted caramel...I don't think I've had that, I never thought about salt and sugar together in a dessert until I made some Nutella cigar cookies with salted tops, and it was quite a nice surprise!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi Terry :) Chips! I often will call them chips too, I like it better. :) Alex loves meal times! I do too. It's our favourite time of the day lol...sorry to tempt you, I know you're sugar-free now!!

  39. I seldom eat ice cream, but youhad to show my most favorite popcycle. Orange and vanilla just seem to GO -TOgether!

    Love from Florida!

  40. This watercolor would be a terrific inspiration for a yarn colorway! What a fierce, little bird to be able to drill holes into wood. I would say good, ol Rocky Road is my ultimate favorite as I have good memories of my dad making us root beer floats with it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Love your first picture...very good! And who couldn't love Porky! I love dreamsicles too and so much more in the ice cream world. I hope the dog is gone and the nut thatch goes! Good for you taking a day off! Did you already go shopping? I missed it..that and your menu making. Enjoy your day.
I adore Italian sandwiches....do you make Italian beef with the juice and hot or mild peppers....yum!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm impressed with how much motion and intensity is in the watercolor of the boys!

I used to work at an ice cream parlor when I was in high school. But that was before they made my favorite flavor, which is Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!

  43. OMG ... boxing :) Only you could connect boxing to cream. I laughed when I saw that and your painting is perfect. I used to watch boxing. It was what everyone did on a Saturday night, but we didn't have a TV so my friend and I would sneak out and watch it through a neighbor's window. Ha, I had forgotten how ornery I was as a kid ... wonder what ever happened to that quality. Do you think being old should preclude it? I don't ... :) So I have to agree that dreamsicle's are the best, but then there is Dairy Queen and Baskin Robbins and on and on. Lets face it Ice cream wins in the end. Wonderfully fun, Rain ... always love coming here.

  45. Hi Stefanie :) Oh cool...I would call the yarn Tangerine Rain lol...yes, that nuthatch is about the size of my hand but boy does he make a lot of noise...so far every time I hear him I run out with the broom and he gets scared away, I'm sure anyone would with me running in my robe with a broom in my hand lol...Root beer floats, those are delicious! :)

  46. Hi Sam :) Yes! last Monday was shopping day...10 1/2 hours from start to finish...that includes the driving, shopping, unpacking and sorting after. At least it's done until mid-April now! At the end of the month I'll need some fresh produce and milk, but I can go to the store that's a 10 minute drive away for that. I would LOVE to add mild peppers to the Italian sandwiches, but they give us heartburn...sometimes we cook with them, then remove them so at least we have a little of the flavour! :) The dog has not shown up yet, but it's Friday now, if he comes back, I think it'll be on the weekend, we'll have to see!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi Jolene :) I've never had the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! A few people mentioned that! I worked at an ice cream parlour in high school too, I definitely sampled lol...

  48. Hi Andrea :) Thank you, so glad you enjoy your visits! :) Another thing I thought of was wrestling. There is a wrestler who called himself the cream of the crop, so I was thinking of painting a flyer elbow slam in the ring lol...boxing seemed closer to the theme though! ;) That's a cool memory about your orneriness lol...NO WAY does age erase that! It's a great quality, keep it up! :)

  49. Hi Rain, today is my 70th day of being sugar-free. I’ll let you know when I get to day 100,! I don’t try and say what anyone else should eat- it’s none of my business! Please eat what you want to.

  50. Thanks for the visit. Green is a color that always draws me in.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Hi Terry, congrats!! That's a lot of days...100 will be a breeze! :) I'm munching on a cookie as I type this lol! :)

  52. Hi Stefanie :) Green is my favourite colour. It's especially pretty this time of year, I can't wait to see the socks! :)

  53. I have read so many blog posts since yesterday that I wasn't sure I read this one already. LOL How's that for confused?

I'm so glad you took a day to relax. That is really important. I call them slacker days. And feel zero guilt. HAHA

Your artwork is wonderful. I always like to see what you'll come up with next. Love the Porky Pig! I really enjoy drawing these characters. It's fun.

And of course, the food. Here I am hungry again after visiting your blog. I wonder why :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ha ha, I know how you feel Martha...when I was catching up, I spent a wonderful afternoon reading blogs too! My day of relaxation was SO needed...Slacker days, that's perfect!! It's very fun to draw the Looney Tunes, they are fun to draw. Thanks, I'm so happy I have the confidence to share my artwork! I love being artsy! :)

  56. Thanks Nik :) The colour orange always brings such happiness! :)

  57. Have you ever seen any "nose art" from World War II aircraft, Rain? You could have made a fortune back then, because your Porky Pig would have made great nose art and you could have done commissions!

I used to have an Amazon account where I sold my old books I didn't want anymore. It turned into a real pain in the rear going to the post office, so I quit. But while I was doing it, a "tattoo parlor" in Miami bought all three books I had on the subject!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hi Harry :) I just looked up the nose art, some of them are pretty cool! Lots of pinups, I like that art too, but the cartoon ones are really great. Thanks for the compliment! :) I can see how getting to the post office is a pain, the gas expense almost wipes out any profit you could make on books I'd guess, at least that would be the case here. Still though, I have thoughts of opening an Etsy shop...maybe in the future. I'm not ready yet though! :)

  59. I love creamsicles too!! Your Porky Pig is so cute! I love all your paintings! The orange one is so happy! Yummy food!! Not good to look at before going to bed! LOL! Happy you took a day off! Sorry you haven't caught the dog yet! I hope he is home!!! Good luck with the nuthatch! LOL! Big Hugs!

  60. Hi Magic Love Crow :) Thank you :) Ha ha...the food isn't good to eat right before bed either...we've done that too many times, eating late then passing out from a food coma lol...

  61. I'm not sure which interpretation I like best but they are all lovely and wonderful takes, Rain. I so love that both you and Alex like Creamsicles the best. Who would have every guessed? I do like them too though must say. So great. Love your abstract there as well adn ice CREAM is perfect too in anyway for me. :) Thank you so much. finally got around to visiting people!

P.S. I can only imagine how much of an ordeal it must be to go shopping jsut once a month--its bad enough once a week!
