The Scribble Picnic is back after a summer break! I'm so happy about this, I missed the weekly challenge! Explore is the theme for today's artwork (follow the link to explore other lovely scribbles!). I'm not sure what's going on in this watercolour...but this gal is definitely on the fence about exploring this possibly haunted house....would you go in? I don't think I would!
Bugs decided to do a little exploring himself and look at that delicious discovery he made! I wonder if his treasure will make it to the museum or not. I tried my best to draw the Indiana Jones fedora...it may be too big for Bugs though! :)
Fairy Condo: I still spend some time every morning in the woods, exploring the area with the three dogs! I hopefully have a few more months before the weather stops me, so I'm taking full advantage of what the forest has to offer!
My friends on Instagram know all about my potato-obsession of late. This was my first harvest from six containers. Not too bad! I posted this one minute video on IG, but I wanted to share it with my Blogger friends too:
So far the potato count is 212 and I still have 4 sets of tires to go through! Some of them have potato scab...which is okay, just kind of ugly looking. From what I've read, it's because my soil is too acidic. I'll have to correct that next planting season. They are still edible, you just have to peel them.

Weather Lore From the Farmer's Almanac:
The Three Days of September (19, 21, and 22) rule the weather for October, November and December.
Keep an eye on your weather and see if it predicts the next three months! Today started off cold and rainy, but now the sun is out and it's supposed to be a fair day...so I'll be watching for this trend in October. :)
To me, your little girl, looks as if she is on the threshold, of home, ready to go out into the world. Or not go. :-)

we are supposed to get our first fall weather on the 22nd. i hope it means something other than a warm november. we are still in the tropics here and i am not happy. how re you storing your potatoes?

ReplyDeleteOh those little baby spuds -- I would cook them whole and eat them with butter, salt, pepper and maybe a touch of dill. Yum!

I think that potatoes are one of my favorite things to grow - harvesting them is like digging for treasure! You have a great harvest! And aren't they delicious? So glad to see you are back to drawing - I missed seeing your artwork!

ReplyDeleteYour watercolor is so thought provoking. I love the blueness of it! Great job with those potatoes. Your soil is so dark. I think my cousin (whose father was a farmer) once told me that black soil is good for growing celery.

ReplyDeleteHi Joyce :) Our weather is the same today as yesterday, so November should be cool with precipitation at the beginning, then fair and sunny for the rest of the month! :) Oh the taters...well, I was going to pressure can them, but that would mean buying more Mason jars, so we are taking an old trunk we had in the living room and putting it in the basement. I have some mesh bags leftover from when I bought all those green beans and I'll store them in there, in the trunk. Hopefully that'll keep the mice away!

ReplyDeleteHi John :) Yes! You should try! You can grow a small crop in garbage bins, that's how I started! When we finally settle down, there will be at least triple what I planted this year! They really are easy to grow.

I'll keep an eye on that weather prediction..the 19 was extremely hot and partly sunny/clouds but the 21st and 22nd are predicted to be wet and stormy.....love that! Your woods are beautiful and so are your drawings...love the bugs adventure drawing and no, I would not venture into that house! LOL! I have missed you s but it's my own fault....I keep trying to do it all and it just doesn't work for me....duh! LOL!
ReplyDeleteBut I am making progress but my hard work comes when the weather cools off and I can go outside again...there's lots to do out there! When I go North, I am going to get some tires for potatoes for sure!
I've never heard that weather thing, but I'm going to go record today's weather on the calendar so I can check. I sure hope it's not correct. It's supposed to be 90 degrees here (possibly record high). I don't want October to be record anything (except for prettiness). We've had a hot summer, but lots of rain - which has resulted in beautiful green grass all summer and super growing conditions for veggies. Because it's been so lush and green this summer, I'm setting high hopes on having a gloriously colorful and comfortable autumn in a few week's time.

Thanks Pam :) I missed you too, I just couldn't find the time to write a proper blog post or be on the computer! But now that the garden, summer and harvest are winding down, I have my "winter" routine back I guess you can call it. :) I would love to see your entries in the picnic...you can do photography too, any creative medium, it doesn't have to be a drawing or a painting! Michael mentioned on an Instagram post that it can be knitting, felted projects...any creative medium...and you are DEFINITELY creative Pam! :)

I still have 4 sets of tires to go, but it started raining and it's heavy work to go for a potato hunt in wet soil lol...I'll wait probably until next week to finish up. I'm hoping for another 100+! :) I know how you feel about trying to do it all...it's hard because my motivation is there, but I don't have the time...and sometimes the energy. :) We'll be back to "normal" (winter normal!) soon enough! :)xx Oh the potatoes are SO easy Sam, when you're up north, definitely it'll be a great crop to grow!! And the tires are free...any garage wants to get rid of them because they have to pay a recycling fee to drop them off. If they can avoid that, they usually say "take all you want"!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Becki :) I hope you have a very pretty autumn :) I think ours will be the usual, rainy (snowy) and sunny...all mixed up...then doom and gloom for November and back-breaking shoveling until April lol...It's usually that way. I'm with you, I wouldn't venture into that house...she's brave enough to be at the doorway! :)

ReplyDeleteI love your creepy girl painting! It totally gets me excited for Inktober...which I hope you consider doing with me this year too? I just put up a post about that and for now, we are going to go back to every two weeks for the picnics. Sorry, I know you like weekly as do many of you so it was a hard call but, realistically, with the holidays, one more move and a drive back to Colorado, it would be hard to consistently contribute weekly right now.

Thanks Michael :) Yes! Inktober...though I will put my own spin on it as you know! :) Every two weeks for the picnic is okay with me. I may just keep painting and drawing every week anyway :) Oh I still have a lot to learn about gardening...each crop has its own little picky behaviour lol!

ReplyDeleteI'm also feeding a pretty intense potato obsession. I wish I would've had the foresight to try growing them this year. I really love the watercolor scribble...perfect for a month of horror movies!:) I especially love the shadow off to the side of the girl in the doorway. It's so fun to read the Farmer's Almanac predictions. Unfortunately, the weather on those days was sunny and very warm, so I'm not sure it will hold true for Pittsburgh. I guess we'll see though!:)
