Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Dining. Wile E. Coyote won't let tough times get him down! He's fine dining whether he catches that Road Runner or not! 😃
Dining by candlelight is very romantic! 😊 I took a class using pastel pencils and I love how this turned out! I didn't have the right paper though, so it's still a little too grainy for my liking.
The winter mornings are beautiful! Even though I have a full plate, sometimes I feel lonely in the winter. It's an odd feeling because I can barely find time to do everything I want/need to do...I think it has to do with a little cabin fever and maybe some Seasonal Affective Disorder - I get that every winter. The house hunting is tiring and currently unsatisfying. It's all the same stuff as last year...I'm hoping for that diamond in the rough to just pop up one day soon!
I also took a class using tinted charcoal pencils on a tan toned piece of sketch paper. My little bunny is dining on a flower. He's pretty content, but I'm not gaga over the tinted charcoal! I have a really tough time identifying values (lights and darks) in colour. I find it easier in black and white (it's much more obvious); but I won't give up! I need to step out of my comfort zone to try new things and learn more about art!!
Rhino Update: We're not quite done!! Next Wednesday night will be the final lesson. This class has taught me patience, which I think we all need to learn at some point in our lives! I've been working with 2 or 3 pencils, very slowly, building layers...and I really do love this wrinkly fella. I have a lot of detail work to finish on his back and side and then I need to "push the values"...which means apply light and dark for highlights and shading. He's been pretty patient considering his temperament, I just have to feed him grass and apples and he's agreed to keep modeling for me! 😁

the bunny is fun and wonderful drawn like the other rabbit.You will also find out about the light and darkness when I was in a creative workshop for years, from then on I practiced again and again and it doesn't have to be perfect. It is your way of painting and drawing that makes every picture. Your personal handwriting! Wonderful the candlelight!

ReplyDeleteThe dismal days of winter affect us all a little or a lot. I have moments but not bad like years ago. I wonder if the hormone pellets I get help with this? Mood swings are affected by hormones so I wouldn't be surprised to learn this is added benefit I hadn't figured on. Anyhow, your art is beatiful. I love the glowing candles! Why didn't I think of that? I remember eons ago how I liked sketching candles. In fact, I often work candles into my illustrations when possible. Your bunny looks so sweet. I did a pencil drawing of a rabbit the first year (2017) I started my art journey. We have a bunny that visits our yard frequently. The rhino is looking fabulous. You're doing very well and I can't see the final step. Keep up the good work! I hear you on the house hunting front. It's frustrating and unproductive at times but like you I know it's out there waiting for us. Here's to 2020 being the year we find our dream homes! ;) Thanks for hosting the artsy fun, my dear!

Beautiful art, as usual. I know what you mean about house hunting. But, once you buy a house, it is such a joy to fix it up and make it your own. Have fun with it. I loved the entire experience.
ReplyDeleteMy dear, you have the patience of a saint and your not quite finished Rhino is exquisite. I can't imagine what more you could do to him, but I will patiently wait to see :) Love your rabbit, your beautiful candles( you are too picky ... they are perfect as is) and Wile E ... what a hoot! I love your art, you are fun and talented. And I have to comment on your icy eyelashes ... do you put something on your face to protect your skin. I am surprised you don't get frost bite. I don't think we have ever been so cold here that my eyelashes froze, but I do put vaseline on my cheeks when I go out with Izzi on freezing days. And I understand those winter blues ... gray skies day in and day out is made for depression. Keep busy and focus on the loving looks of your pup and spring will come sooner than you think :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :)) You're right about the hormones and that could be contributing to these winter blues. I'm an outdoors person and when I can't go out because of weather, I feel trapped. I have the beautiful woods all around me but the trails are blocked by too much snow. I really long for the days when I can walk freely in the woods with all three of the dogs! Oh I hope 2020 will be the year we both find our homes!!! I started painting in 2013, drawing in 2018, but I feel like this year is the real start of my art journey! It's a lot of fun and it's helping me through the winter!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much Andrea :)) I'm not quite sure what is left with my rhino either, but I think I will work on lights and darks and see how I can make him seem to have more depth in the wrinkles and curves. I'm glad you liked my coyote, poor thing is eating a tin can lol...Vaseline is a good idea...I usually put cold cream (I use Olay) before I go out for added protection. When it's really windy I have to wrap myself up with scarves too. If Charlie didn't have energy overload, I would probably stay home most of those really frigid mornings!!

well it's been too long since I've been around blog world much. First off your first sketch is so so creative - I love it. The rabbit - wonderful!! and the rhino - looks good too. I remember learning to lay down layers when I would take tutorials over at Wet Canvas (and if you haven't discovered this site you might like it!) I would spend much time learning how to do this especially when I would do portraits because I wanted them to look like i "painted" them so it was awesome to hang out there. You are so creative in every way. I think I get seasonal depression also when I am stuck in the house for over three to four days at a time because of wind or snow. Even if i can't get out walking I finally just decide to take a drive through the various mountain towns just to cheer me up. I love Jack's face. so cute. House Hunting - wow...i can imagine and wow you will know it when you see it - that's how it was with my third house and forever kind of house until we had to sale and retired elsewhere. we were there 30 years and raised a bundle of kids and then started with the grandkids there. You WILL find what you are looking for because the "intent" is there.

The layering is something I'm working on. When I started drawing and painting, I just plopped all pigment down hard and fast lol...now I'm learning patience and it makes the final piece that much nicer. You can believe my intent is there for the house, I project that out daily to the Universe!! :)

Hoping you are enjoying your art classes. I bet you are. BURRR the thoughts of you being snowed in makes me cold. We had about an inch this morning but it took me forever to get up and get out just cause I hated the thoughts of getting out in the cold. So funny, we had a 1/2 inch on Nov 12, never have it that early. Thought it would be a wicked winter, NOT! We have had a wet winter but not from snow. And not that many really cold days. 70 degrees earlier in the week and then snow this morning and cold. Right after it says that spring will be early. CRAZY>

Another great theme Rain, sorry i've not had chance to meet up it's been a very busy week with time needed to be spent elsewhere. Your hare is beautiful and the Rhino is coming along a treat, I just wish I could get up close to take a real peep at your attention to detail, something I love and adore. He's a well pampered boy..to have so much love and attention.

Hi Pam :)) Jack is very adorable...I can't get enough of him :)) Yes! I am definitely enjoying the art classes A LOT. I've added even more, I'm taking classes pretty much every day, a few times a day!There are mornings when I hear the wind howling...and I don't want to get out of bed lol!!
