Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Abstract. I decided to do a Picasso-esque portrait of Bugs Bunny this week. He's very versatile with his facial expressions! 😊
At first I had no idea what to do for this theme, but I do get a lot of inspiration from other Bloggers...this week, I got inspiration from Sue over at Elephant's Child blog. She has a weekly Wednesday post called Words For Wednesday - it's a post encouraging people to write. Her prompt last week was about keys opening doors and what would be on the other side: "...What key will you use, and what is on the other side of the door."
That was my inspiration! Here is a pen and ink abstract key and door piece. I really enjoyed doing this one! I have a feeling that if you used this key to open that door, you would fall into another dimension!
Another fun piece involving keys, this is called "trick art" or "3D art". I followed a tutorial for this using markers and pastel pencils.
I tried another trick art piece, my hand, drawn with graphite pencils and Sharpies. I had no idea I'd have so much fun with this week's theme! I hope you did too! I think more trick art will be in my future!
Things are moving along at home, we're doing so many things...Alex found a great big salamander while he was cleaning up behind the shed. I think that the dots on these creatures are so interesting! I figured this fell under the abstract theme!
I feel as though I'm living my dream life right now! While walking Charlie and Jack, I discovered a trail in the woods! I walked for a good 20 minutes, but it was like a rain forest in there, oi the humidity...so we turned back. I have no idea how long this trail is, this country goes on for miles and miles.
Here's a fun gif I made from photos. Charlie and Marlene cooling off in the stream. Jack won't go in though, he doesn't like to get his tootsies wet!

ReplyDeleteI especially LOVE the hand. It's fabulous and clever. Those keys are unbelievable. They both show what an incredible artist you are. I can't draw, but I can appreciate what you have created. These are fabulous.
You certainly live in a lovely area, and I'm impressed with how wild and desolate (in a good way) everything is. Most impressive GIF of the dogs, too. I had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever who wouldn't go in the water unless I went in first. Not a good trait for a retriever, but he was a beautiful show dog.

Abstract really does scare me Rain but I think it is in us all maybe we just need to close our eyes before we begin?? Bugs made me smile, he looks cheeky with eyes at the back of his head, something we all could do with right now. Your ink drawing is fantastic, it widens my imagination wondering just what is behind that door. The key is very clever as is the hand, art really is a magnificent thing.

ReplyDeleteLove what you made of the key and line art today. This kind of illusions was popular many years ago. As I only was photographing at that time I never tried it. I think you did great with both of them.

Oh cool 3D art! I wish I had thought along that line. Yours turned out fantastic. I need to watch some of these tutorials. I've always been fascinated with how artists achieve their illustration illusions. What fun! I can't wait to try now!! Thanks for the inspiration. ;)

Love the key and the door abstract, but the 3D one blows my mind ~ How cool! I bet you wanted to shake in the water too after your walk :) The landscape shot is almost too perfect to be real! All that lush green against the beautiful blue sky filled with puffy white clouds ~ Beautiful! Enjoy

ReplyDeleteGreat artwork! I really Envy you having all those woods to explore. How is covid-19 on up there? Are you still in quarantine or are you able to get out with masks etcetera?
ReplyDeleteI envy your artistic ability. Mine is nonexistent with pens, pencils or paint..but I love crafting. Jack reminds me of our beagles, long gone to doggy heaven. One would go in, the other, as we used to say 'did not like to get wet past her toenails'! Those are super sky shots. I don't know if I am imagining it, but the skies seem bluer and clearer, and the clouds whiter this summer. I am so glad you found your "place".
ReplyDeleteWow, Rain, this post was fabulous. Your imagination abounds ... I love the Picasso Bugs. And the 3-D art is amazing. Where did you find the tutorial. I would love to experiment with that. And Thank you for reminding me of Sue's Words for Wednesday. I used to participate in it and after we moved, I lost track of it. She is an awesome lady ... very bright and very kind. So on with your post. I loved your gif of the dogs. I used to do gifs too ... boy have I ever lost touch :( Anyway, I am curious as to where your trail in the woods goes ... not sure I would want you to go by yourself to find out, but maybe a Sunday walk with your significant other :) Needless to say, you hit a home run this week. Nest week is going to be a challenge ... which is what I think you intended :) (I used to find those salamanders in my "Grandmothers back yard... They had a stream running through the back and we would go out and catch the salamanders and crayfish. We always put them back though ... learned from an early age not to disturb nature :)

That Bug's Bunny picture does look like something by Picasso. Oh what fun you have as an artist. You are so talented.

how exciting to live somewhere where you can get into jungle type foliage and actually get lost! think I need to move there :) your trail looks very interesting, I'm glad you have the dogs for company, watch out for snakes. ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy :) The covid situation here is off and on. We went a full week without new cases, and then suddenly there were 7. Apparently "foreign workers now self-isolating" whatever that means. Lots of folks are not wearing masks (I still do when I go out), but at least people are keeping their distance, but I find it depends on the area. In the north of NB, they are not seemingly taking it as serious as in the south. Why? Who knows!!!

I don't mind being out on the open trails, but sometimes I get a weird feeling when I'm too deep in the woods, even though I have my pepper spray with me and the dogs. I guess I need to get an ATV or something to explore deeper!

Oh we did see a few snakes, they are garter snakes, not supposed to be harmful, but one of them struck at Alex's boots so we have to make sure they won't go near the pups! The dogs are TOO curious about everything out here!
