Hello Friends! ππ
Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Abstract. I decided to do a Picasso-esque portrait of Bugs Bunny this week. He's very versatile with his facial expressions! π
At first I had no idea what to do for this theme, but I do get a lot of inspiration from other Bloggers...this week, I got inspiration from Sue over at Elephant's Child blog. She has a weekly Wednesday post called Words For Wednesday - it's a post encouraging people to write. Her prompt last week was about keys opening doors and what would be on the other side: "...What key will you use, and what is on the other side of the door."
That was my inspiration! Here is a pen and ink abstract key and door piece. I really enjoyed doing this one! I have a feeling that if you used this key to open that door, you would fall into another dimension!
Another fun piece involving keys, this is called "trick art" or "3D art". I followed a tutorial for this using markers and pastel pencils.
I tried another trick art piece, my hand, drawn with graphite pencils and Sharpies. I had no idea I'd have so much fun with this week's theme! I hope you did too! I think more trick art will be in my future!
Things are moving along at home, we're doing so many things...Alex found a great big salamander while he was cleaning up behind the shed. I think that the dots on these creatures are so interesting! I figured this fell under the abstract theme!
I feel as though I'm living my dream life right now! While walking Charlie and Jack, I discovered a trail in the woods! I walked for a good 20 minutes, but it was like a rain forest in there, oi the humidity...so we turned back. I have no idea how long this trail is, this country goes on for miles and miles.
Here's a fun gif I made from photos. Charlie and Marlene cooling off in the stream. Jack won't go in though, he doesn't like to get his tootsies wet!
Beautiful Summer! |
Today is monthly shopping day, ugh! I'll catch up with everyone on the weekend! That's all for now folks! Please check out the widget below to see more Abstract art! And join me on Sunday for my food, pets and home post! π

Wonderful abstracts Rain I am fascinated by your trick art, so neat!
ReplyDeleteWow that trail into the bush looks so inviting but I can imagine the humidity ... phew.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs are so cute playing in the water. It's a beautiful summer indeed !!! Enjoy shopping day ;)
While the prompt was on my blog, Cindi provided the inspiration for the keys challenge. I will forward your post to her in the expectation that she will love it as much as I do.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for joining us.
And I love ALL of your abstract beauties this week.
Shopping? Shudder. A sadly necessary evil.
glad you are doing well and things are coming along well. Wonderful art and photos, have a great day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteYour first drawing, the one with Bugs, reminded me of a photo I took of Bleubeard. I am late visiting, because I had to find the photo and add it to my post.
ReplyDeleteI especially LOVE the hand. It's fabulous and clever. Those keys are unbelievable. They both show what an incredible artist you are. I can't draw, but I can appreciate what you have created. These are fabulous.
You certainly live in a lovely area, and I'm impressed with how wild and desolate (in a good way) everything is. Most impressive GIF of the dogs, too. I had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever who wouldn't go in the water unless I went in first. Not a good trait for a retriever, but he was a beautiful show dog.
great abstract scenes with key and hand! You had great ideas
ReplyDeleteBunny is fun on abstract!
they like the cooling of the dogs and beautiful Weather!
Have a happy week, hugs Elke
Greetings Elke
Abstract really does scare me Rain but I think it is in us all maybe we just need to close our eyes before we begin?? Bugs made me smile, he looks cheeky with eyes at the back of his head, something we all could do with right now. Your ink drawing is fantastic, it widens my imagination wondering just what is behind that door. The key is very clever as is the hand, art really is a magnificent thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to read you are living the dream now, from what you share of your surroundings it sure looks like paradise to me. Stay safe whilst doing the monthly shop, sadly I have to do many peoples shopping and errands weekly.
Take care & love that life Rain Hugs Tracey xx
lol, I think Bugs has looked tooo deep into the carrot beer bottle today :)
ReplyDeleteLove what you made of the key and line art today. This kind of illusions was popular many years ago. As I only was photographing at that time I never tried it. I think you did great with both of them.
Love your summer shots, over here we are rapidly moving into fall it seems.
Take care. :)
Thanks for adding my link! Looks like you live in a beautiful area!
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteBugs kinda looks like he's shaking his head side to side.
Oh cool 3D art! I wish I had thought along that line. Yours turned out fantastic. I need to watch some of these tutorials. I've always been fascinated with how artists achieve their illustration illusions. What fun! I can't wait to try now!! Thanks for the inspiration. ;)
I don't think I've seen a salamander like this before - neat! Your dogs look like they are enjoying the water. lol What a gorgeous blue sky! Happy shopping and thanks for hosting the artsy fun, my dear!
Love the key and the door abstract, but the 3D one blows my mind ~ How cool! I bet you wanted to shake in the water too after your walk :) The landscape shot is almost too perfect to be real! All that lush green against the beautiful blue sky filled with puffy white clouds ~ Beautiful! Enjoy
ReplyDeleteI did indeed love your creative interpretation of the keys and door! And that salamander is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteInspiring artwork!
ReplyDeleteI'm sensing how happy you are in your new location. Lots of possibilities!
Those abstracts do look like fun! Love the salamander photo and the girls in the water! Glad you are enjoying your new homestead! It looks lovely there.
ReplyDeleteGreat artwork! I really Envy you having all those woods to explore. How is covid-19 on up there? Are you still in quarantine or are you able to get out with masks etcetera?
ReplyDeleteI envy your artistic ability. Mine is nonexistent with pens, pencils or paint..but I love crafting. Jack reminds me of our beagles, long gone to doggy heaven. One would go in, the other, as we used to say 'did not like to get wet past her toenails'! Those are super sky shots. I don't know if I am imagining it, but the skies seem bluer and clearer, and the clouds whiter this summer. I am so glad you found your "place".
ReplyDeleteWow, Rain, this post was fabulous. Your imagination abounds ... I love the Picasso Bugs. And the 3-D art is amazing. Where did you find the tutorial. I would love to experiment with that. And Thank you for reminding me of Sue's Words for Wednesday. I used to participate in it and after we moved, I lost track of it. She is an awesome lady ... very bright and very kind. So on with your post. I loved your gif of the dogs. I used to do gifs too ... boy have I ever lost touch :( Anyway, I am curious as to where your trail in the woods goes ... not sure I would want you to go by yourself to find out, but maybe a Sunday walk with your significant other :) Needless to say, you hit a home run this week. Nest week is going to be a challenge ... which is what I think you intended :) (I used to find those salamanders in my "Grandmothers back yard... They had a stream running through the back and we would go out and catch the salamanders and crayfish. We always put them back though ... learned from an early age not to disturb nature :)
ReplyDeleteBe safe and enjoy your new life.
Andrea @ From the Sol
I just love ALL your art pieces for this post!
ReplyDeleteWow, your abstracts were very good and fun to look at.
ReplyDeleteThe humidity has been terrible here and zaps me of all energy. I would have jumped in the water with the dogs to get cool.
That Bug's Bunny picture does look like something by Picasso. Oh what fun you have as an artist. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteThe key inspiration is just fabulous!!! I love how you did your hand too. It does look like fun. Ohhh yeah Salamader abstract you bet it falls right into place here. I am so happy for you and your new place. You have years of exploration coming your way. Be careful out there shopping. I go tomorrow for a few local things. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteThanjs for a very inspiring prompt, Rain
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday
Muchπlove
Wow! The abstract key and key illusion are amazing! Well Done!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful blue sky. Thanks for sharing!
Great art
ReplyDeleteLovely art, fascinated with the trick key.
ReplyDeleteyou captured the beauty of solitude today
ReplyDeleteLeeAnna
Those 3D art pieces are so cool. Fun to feel my eyes being tricked. I love salamanders but haven't seen many this year as it's so dry.
ReplyDeleteThe key is a fine one, so are your other abstracts! Love the blue sky and those clouds, what a place! Loved to see your dogs having some fun time too! Beautiful post, Rain!
ReplyDeleteI am linking my post too - it's On Creativity and a couple of my Poems. I have a couple of digitally manipulated images too. Hope it's fine.
Thanks and Happy PPF! :)
I think there's something wrong with your eyes, Bugs. Haha.
ReplyDeleteA key with eyes, it may well send you to another dimension or it may take you somewhere really pleasant. I'm always surprised what prompted someone to create so it's great to hear you were inspired by words alone.
Those 3d pieces works wonderfully.
Have a lovely day.
how exciting to live somewhere where you can get into jungle type foliage and actually get lost! think I need to move there :) your trail looks very interesting, I'm glad you have the dogs for company, watch out for snakes. The art is fun, I like the keyhole with shadow, it's so hard to do shadows - I admire you!
ReplyDeleteHey, I made it in time for this week! Thanks for being so kind and patient with me, Rain! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteVery cool abstracts rain!! The key one is fascinating. I bet the doggies felt good after getting in the water. It sure does sound like you are living your dream and I am so happy for you. Good luck with the shopping- no longer something I enjoy so much in these times- and i must go once a week;( Happy belated PPF!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have discovered a new trail! Love the gif! :)
ReplyDeleteHow neat to have a trail to explore by your home.
ReplyDeleteFabulous art, great ideas.
ReplyDeleteLove the gif of the dogs in the water.
All the best Jan
Thanks Christine :) It was really fun to do, I hope I can do more in the future!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sis :) It's been an amazing summer hasn't it? We got spoiled this year!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elephant's Child :) And thanks for mentioning Cindi. I agree with your shudder about shopping, I can't stand it. I wish I could just buy everything online!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie :) Things are really coming along, slowly but surely!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth :) I see the resemblance of my abstract Bugs to your photo of Bleubeard!! The hand was surprisingly EASY to draw! It's just a matter of getting the lines drawn in shapes that make it look 3D, I surprised myself actually lol! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elke :) Our weather has been fabulous, I'm so glad the dogs have an area where they can cool off!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tracey :) I know what you mean about abstract being scary! Closing our eyes, not a bad idea! That could get the creative juices flowing!!! I do feel very grateful for living here, it gets better every day! :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Monica :) Ha ha ha...I think I shared that carrot beer with Bugs when I drew him hee hee! It's still pretty hot here during the days, but nights are definitely cooling off!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kokopelli :) This area is very beautiful! And I'm so glad you made it this week! :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :)) You know, those 3D tutorials are pretty easy...I don't know how they figure out where to put things, but the result is so cool, I hope you try it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen :) That 3D art was so much fun to do, and really easy! This area is so nice, I did in fact get into the water, and it was wonderful! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindi :)) And thanks for the inspiration!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn :) You're sensing correctly! :)))
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam :) The girls LOVE the water...we've been there nearly every day since discovering that stream! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy :) The covid situation here is off and on. We went a full week without new cases, and then suddenly there were 7. Apparently "foreign workers now self-isolating" whatever that means. Lots of folks are not wearing masks (I still do when I go out), but at least people are keeping their distance, but I find it depends on the area. In the north of NB, they are not seemingly taking it as serious as in the south. Why? Who knows!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosalea :) I think that Jack is part beagle, we figure he's part pointer and part beagle because he has those floppy ears and big feet lol! I think you're right about the skies this year! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea :)) Sorry I was so late with the video, but I see that you checked it out! :) I haven't yet followed that trail in the woods too far because of the coyote problem here. I don't mind being out on the open trails, but sometimes I get a weird feeling when I'm too deep in the woods, even though I have my pepper spray with me and the dogs. I guess I need to get an ATV or something to explore deeper!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra :) I really enjoyed the 3D art this week! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Arleen :) I certainly jumped in with the dogs...it's been humid, but the heat is really hard to handle. We don't have much shade around here!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi :) I did have fun with my Picasso Bugs piece! :) I don't know if he did though! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicole :) I really don't enjoy shopping at all...that's why I only do it once a month. I loved the 3D tutorials!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gillena :) And you're welcome! I'm glad it inspired you! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks TB :) The skies here in the Maritimes are so big, that's the only way I can describe them! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Clare :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lin :) The 3D art was so much fun to do!
ReplyDeleteThanks LeeAnna :) I appreciate your comment! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tpals :) It's been so dry here too, I've seen maybe just a handful of salamanders. They are pretty neat.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deepa :) I love that you linked your post! :) Your poems are wonderful, very creative! This place is like heaven for me, I'm so glad we moved here. It was a bit stressful because we bought the place "virtually" through our realtor, 1000 km away from our rental and we were so worried, but it all turned out perfectly!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Lissa :) LOL...I think Bugs was thinking the same thing! I'm so glad I read Sue's post because it truly was inspiring...you just never know where you will find inspiration and also who you are inspiring!! I'm so grateful for our blogging community! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Betty :) You'd LOVE it here...I love this rural life we are now living! It's perfect! Oh we did see a few snakes, they are garter snakes, not supposed to be harmful, but one of them struck at Alex's boots so we have to make sure they won't go near the pups! The dogs are TOO curious about everything out here!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda :) I don't enjoy shopping anymore...well, I guess I never did! I'm happy I can get it done once a month. The key one was really fun to do, and it took me a long time to see the 3D effect, but it's definitely there! I love living here, it really is a dream for me, I've waited so long for it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Becki :) The trail was really hidden and I'm so happy I found it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stefanie :) It's really neat to find all of these trails, right outside my door practically!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan :) The dogs definitely love that stream! :)
