Here's a little doodle inspired by Fred Astaire.
I was browsing the internet for ideas this week and I saw photos of these three actors who were all jumping: Bill Murray, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. I decided to draw their portraits this week!
Bill Murray (Charcoals) |
Sean Penn (Ink/Graphite) |
Benicio Del Toro (Charcoals) |
Birds at the feeder (Grackle, Mourning Doves and Red Winged Blackbird, Hummingbird, American Goldfinch) - Not great shots because I took them through my window! |
Homemade Brownies and Lemon Curd Squares |

Great take on the characters jumping in and good work on the portraits. Yummy food and happy pets. Nicole is so talented.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your portraiture, your pets and your food.
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing better.
A wonderful posting with all the drawings and scenes on the topic.
ReplyDeleteNice your photos of the dogs and cats and the birds that come to visit.
Eat so delicious what you cooked and baked for Italian food.
I wish you a nice week, hugs Elke
The highlighted from Nicole is super congratulations
Lots of lovely art and photos, today! Glad your furry family is doing well, that's great news. Your food looks delicious, as always. Have a great day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHi Rain, sorry for being away so long! Glad to be back and be greeted by delicious food, wonderful art and cute pets! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Looney Tunes made me smile this week. Love them, and Fred A. :)
ReplyDeleteBill MurrayI know of, but not the others.
Glad to know all pets are good now and the birds seem healthy too.
Taek care!
First off thanks for the feature. Blush Blush. NOW I love this jumping art with all the gang getting ready for the water. Very nice for sure. Great faces this week too. Looks like you are doing very well with the toaster oven. Yeah that pizza looks soooooo good. Lots of birds at your feeder too. I am so glad to hear that the pest are doing well. Now you can enjoy the summer.
ReplyDeleteRain,
ReplyDeleteThe Looney Tunes fixing to jump into the pool is great! I love how you use these characters as the subject in your illustrations each week. Your drawings always make me smile. Your portraits are fabulous! I have yet to sit down to try out my new charcoals and black art paper. I think I'm a little nervous. I'm usually quite reluctant to try anything new for sometime but I'll eventually get over and find my way to attempting to do it. Yum, your foodie pix make me very hungry! Your critters are a fun addition and those cats? Oh good heavens, don't they look lazy! lol
It perhaps a bit of a stretch, Rain, that I entered my link, based on the premise that I jump for joy at the daily experience of nature. If that's unacceptable feel free to remove my entry - with no hard feelings! You did well to capture the colour on the male Ruby-throated Hummingbird. So often the angle is wrong and it looks black. The weekend is almost upon us. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThursday, a good reason to jump for joy
ReplyDeletemuch❤love
Fantastic art work Rain and all the food looks amazing as always. I'm so glad the pets are all doing well, and I hope you are continuing to feel better too. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOnce again, I have fallen behind in blog reading but had a catch up this morning, Rain. As usual, I enjoyed seeing Bugs and all his friends getting ready for a swim, except Sylvester did look nervous. Fred Astaire is one of favorites and your art captured him well for me. Glad the pets are all doing well and the cats did look comfy all stretched out. I am sure they enjoy the bird show at the feeders too. Glad the issue about bee hives has been cleared up and you would do well to let them know that signage is needed to prevent yourself or others being stung in future. Anyone allergic to bee stings would have a legal case for negligence, but then it seems that only newcomers such as yourself were unaware of the pollination practices, and obviously not informed beforehand.
ReplyDeleteWonderful portraits Rain - your talents never cease to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteThe animals all look as if they are enjoying life - hoping your weather is cooler for them there than ours.
Love the bird photos - we are keeping the bird baths clean as mosquito season is here (hate those little beasties!), but we've emptied the feeders (a first) for a while due to the deer siphoning off the seed nightly and knocking them to the ground, plus the squirrel and chipmunk invasion this spring was gigantic and so much damage being done to plants and blooms. Now the rabbits are here, nibbling of course!
Nature in the city has no boundaries these days with so much construction going on and, sadly, wildlife losing their long time habitats all around us is seen weekly as more and more housing and commercial buildings goes up.
Take care - stay well and happy.
Mary -
...I'd love to jump right in there for some pizza and brownies!
ReplyDeleteGreat art and I love your "cat table"!!!
ReplyDeleteI like all your protraits, especially Sean Penn and the Fred Astaire silhouette! And of course, your Looney Tune drawings are always fun and amusing! Glad your pets are all doing well and I hope you are too, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI love Sylvestor and the arm bands. Also, all those lounging cats!
ReplyDeleteSpot-on charcoals! I have to tease you about a couple things though. 1. What, no David Lee Roth? GEEZ. lol and 2. Ugh, all those carbs, thanks a bunch, I'm doing Atkins (low carb) right now, lol. Ok, that's all I got. I know, I might as well...jump. {grin} xoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff. Looney toons are great characters to draw for all themes. Your pets always bring a smile to my face. You food photos made me crave Italian food. So many different birds you have. All we have right now are pigeons and mourning doves. I did see a sparrow the other day but figured it was lost lol.
ReplyDeletewow rain...your art just gets better and better. i love the pics of jack...he is the saddest looking happy puppy around!
ReplyDeleteOh I do so love your portraits ... I especially like the Sean Penn. It captures the roughness of her personality as well as his looks. And Fred Astaire, I would have know it was him if you hadn't told us. Beautiful art work this week, Rain. I don't mean to leave out your Looney Tunes gang. Your have them down to perfection and I still say you should apply to Looney Tunes for a free lance job. I am guessing they would take you up on it and it would be money in your pocket for doing something you love to do ... just sayin'. Good to see your furbabies all doing well. Jack looks like he is saying something to you about the camera in his face. Izzi used to get so tired of my taking her picture, she would turn her head away when she saw me coming with the camera. My family does the same thing except Poppy (my granddaughter), I haven't worn her out yet :) Your food is tempting as usual, but since I just ate, I can get by with ogling it. So good to have you back ... stay well, Rain.
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From the Sol
How very fun! Aloha pets!
ReplyDeleteI am gratified that the animals are all doing well.
ReplyDeleteWhen you listed "Jump" as your theme, I was sure David Lee Roth from the Van Halen song of the same name would put in an appearance. That song certain defined the latter years of my high school experience.
So pleased all your pets are doing well.
ReplyDeleteYour food looks delicious.
Great art, there's nothing better than to jump in a pool on a hot summers day, just ask the grandchildren:)
Have a good week.
All the best Jan
Great portraits today Rain. That moody Sean Penn is a corker! How you find the time to do all that art, cooking, dog walking, photos and thinking is a mystery to me.
ReplyDeleteLemon curd squares I could murder.
Not much birding for me as a poor weather week and the fact that June is the quiet month for birds.
Thanks for doing the art dates, although I don't always participate I really enjoy seeing your art and all the other participants :) I love Jack, he has such a gentle face, he looks like a really special soul, bless him, so glad he is looking well and rested. Hope you are ok Rain and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of your new home without a long list of 'to do'. Betty :)
ReplyDeleteI like your drawings a lot. Your food looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteI always get a kick out of your cartoon art rain:) y And your portrait sketches are just amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love about good food-yum, and your fur babies are just so sweet. Happy PPF, and have a super weekend!
Hello Rain,
ReplyDeleteYou cartoon art is fun, love seeing them all jumping into the pool. I remember as a kid watching Fred Astaire movies with my mother. The birds are enjoying their treats at your feeders, the hummer is a favorite. It is always nice to hear the furbabies are doing well, they are sweet! Brownies, lemon squares and pizza all sounds yummy to me. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend.
oh these jumpers filled my heart with delight :)
ReplyDeletelovely art as always dear Rain!

Beautiful dogs.

Beautiful art!
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love those looney tune jumpers! Pizza?....who ever goes crazy for pizza?... WE DO!,,,lol !
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elephant's Child, I am doing better! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Elke :) Italian food is a staple these days!
ReplyDeleteThanks Valerie :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Kokopelli, nice to see you back! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Monica :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Nicole! :) Having healthy pets...well, Marlene and Leo require more care and special diets, but having all of that manageable makes life so much easier! The toaster oven is making fabulous pizzas!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :) I'm glad the Looney Tunes make you happy! It's fun to include them! The cats are SO LAZY when it's hot out...in fact so are the dogs lol...they know how to enjoy the hot weather. Cathy, stay tuned. I am in the process of creating an art YT channel with time lapsed videos of me drawing and creating art. If you need some guidance to JUMP into using those charcoals, maybe that'll help you!
ReplyDeleteThanks David, and I think jumping for joy at nature is just fine!! :) We actually get a LOT of hummingbirds, and I have to really stake them out better from the yard to get better shots. I love the green ones!
ReplyDeleteI agree Gillena! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Martha :) We are all doing better, thankfully! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Dorothy :)) I agree about the bee stings...I know people are deathly allergic to them and that would be a tragedy. I'm just very happy I have my walking trail back and it's safe now. I love watching Fred Astaire dance...he's so entertaining! Thanks for you comment! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary :) You know, I often think I would love to see deer, rabbits and small critters in my backyard, but when you talk about them eating your garden away, I think twice! We are all enjoying the summer here! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Tom...sorry they are long gone! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy :) Cat table! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra :)) I'm doing a lot better! Summer is helping for sure. I was actually quite proud of Sean Penn this week! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon :) Yeah...I tried to find ideas on how to make Sylvester look very cowardly near the water, I think the arm floaties did the job lol!
ReplyDeleteLOL Aimeslee! I love carbs! I would rather exercise for 2 hours a day then diet! :) Van Halen's song tempted me to do a portrait of David Lee Roth, he has a lot of character in his face!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marsha :) We have a LOT of Mourning Doves here too, I see dozens of them in the backyard every morning. I love their coo!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joyce :) You are so right about Jack being the saddest looking happy pup! :) That hound dog expression! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea :)) How complimentary that you knew it was Fred Astaire!!! :) I love watching him dance. And thanks again for saying that about the Looney Tunes. I don't think I could draw for a living, it would be too much pressure! Jack is really the same as Izzi...I have to catch him by surprise now when I have my camera out lol...otherwise he does the same thing, turns his head!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cloudia :)
ReplyDeleteThanks TB :) "Jump!" for you and me both. That was a great song from my high school days, as was the Pointer Sisters "Jump For My Love"... I thought about those...there were lots of options this week! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan :) Oh how I'd love a pool in my backyard! One of these days!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil :) I liked my Sean Penn this week, I love all of his lines, it was a good study for the ink and graphite! Interesting that June is a quiet month for birds, we've had so many around here!
ReplyDeleteThanks Betty :) Jack is definitely a sweet soul, I love him to bits. I've quieted down the "to do" list. It's a lot of work and I'm doing things very gradually lately. I'm trying to spend more time on myself and my art as well. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda :) I really enjoy coming up with the Looney Tune art each week! So glad you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eileen :) Fred Astaire is so entertaining to watch when he dances, I actually tried drawing his face and it didn't turn out, thus the silhouette lol! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you Baili! :) ♥
ReplyDeleteThanks Anu :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Shiju :)
ReplyDeleteLOL...thanks Dino! A fellow pizzafile! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm back in the land of the living, back to regular chores. You know how it is.
I was a mess.
I sure enjoy your posts. I lack the motivation to do much more than chores. Perhaps I ought to grab my sketch pad!!!
Have a great week.
Hi Jenn! :) Being back in the land of the living, yes I can very much relate. So glad we're BOTH back there. Feels better doesn't it? :) Please do grab your sketch pad!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful drawings!
ReplyDeleteYour pets are looking great :)

ReplyDeleteIt's great that the cats and dogs are doing so well.
Greetings Irma
I always love your artwork, Rain! Really impressive. Then there's all that food...oh my gosh, so many goodies. And all those happy dogs and cats! So much loving energy.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Irma :))
ReplyDeleteThanks Martha ♥ :) There is a LOT of loving energy around me! :)
ReplyDeleteYour Sean Penn sketch is amazing! Cats certainly know how to spend a day well :) Take care, and pizza is always s good treat at the dinner table.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Yvonne! :) If I could healthfully live on pizza I would! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the cartoon characters and of course Jump!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol! :))
ReplyDeleteSome of my favourite cartoon characters are jumping! 1 pizza please, so yummy! Your pets are having a great time. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are doing well, Rain. Your Sean Penn drawing is stunning (seriously, it took my breath for a second), and the cats sleeping on the table is hilarious. I hope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented, as I may possibly have mentioned before! I think those three movie stars would be proud to hang your portraits of themselves! Love your sweet pets, the feeder birds, and oh, as always, your food! I am really hungry for both of those two desserts now.
ReplyDeleteRain - the cats look how I feel - hot!!! It was over 100 here today. Tomorrow I might take a nap on our bathroom tile ... The pizza looks delicious!!! Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday!
ReplyDeleteDon't you think we can all jump for joy when everyone is good? I'm thinking the cats were sleeping when the birds were visiting the bird table?! Your baking looks as tremendous as your artwork - glad all is calm out your way!
ReplyDeleteWren x
Thanks Nancy :)) Another fellow pizza-file, I love it! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Becki :)) I'm doing very well these days! And thanks so much for your comment about my Sean Penn!!! I was particularly proud of that drawing!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sallie! That's very sweet!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Angie :) I KNOW how you feel...we are still in the 100's here with great humidity. It's rough without the A/C's!! Thanks for dropping by! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Wren! :) Oh yes, I'm already jumping for joy that there are only 35 active cases of the virus here in this province!!! I think the cats were too hot and lazy to even care if there were birds around or not lol! :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I hear "jump" I always think of Van Halen's song :-) You have made a great selection of jump pictures and portrayed the actors excellently! Your cake pictures whet my appetite - I would really like to have these brownies or lemon curd squares. So wonderful that the pets are all doing well - and that there were so many bird sightings through the window. What would I give if I could photograph hummingbirds here through my window ;-)!
ReplyDeleteHave a good start to July!
All the best, Traude

Thanks Traude! :) I know, that Van Halen song really comes to mind doesn't it? :) I think I will make these brownies again this weekend, boy we ate them fast!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented Rain! Those portraits are amazing! Love the Looney Tunes! LOL! Your food always makes me hungry! LOL! Glad your pets are doing well and I hope you are too! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stacy! :) Everyone here is doing very well!! :)
