π¨π Thursday Art and Dinner Date: The First Thing You See Today & Garlic Scape Powder!

Tweety Bird is very lucky! The first thing he sees each morning when he opens up his eyes is Granny bringing him breakfast in bed!! π This will be my face for Nicole's Friday Face Off! I'm also joining Gillena for her Art For Fun Friday post!
I hope you're all getting my comments! I noticed that my comments seem to disappear when the comment form is on the same page as the post. The message above appears, but the comment doesn't always get to you! Just please know that I do visit if comments disappear! David posted a beautiful photo on his blog last week of a Red-spotted Admiral butterfly. His wife Miriam took the photo and I asked him if I could draw it. Well, it started out looking pretty realistic, then as I usually do, I veered away from the reference photo! I still like how it turned out! I used Prismacolor pencils to draw this; and odorless solvent to blend!
The first thing I see each morning are the sweet faces of Jack, Baby Oscar and Raven!
When I remember to leave my curtains open a little, I also see a beautiful sunrise over the woods and mountains! I painted this with acrylic paints.
πFor our π Dinner Date π, I made a delicious Pull Apart Bread, using my No Knead Bread and blended Homemade Pizza Sauce for dipping! It's made with garlic butter, Mozzarella and Parm...all melted in the oven. A nice comfort food treat!
Breakfast Chalupa! Aimeslee told me it's not a burrito if you don't roll it up, it's a chalupa! Thanks Aimeslee! π
Another quick meal is roasted potatoes on tortillas with Homemade Salsa.
In the garden, I picked about 4 cups of blueberries! I'm lucky that I have wild blueberries all over my acreage. Too many to pick, but this is a good start! I think these will turn into blueberry simple syrup!
I also picked my garlic scapes! I didn't plant as many garlic bulbs this year, only 16. When the scapes start to curl, they're ready to harvest! If you don't harvest them, the plant puts a lot of energy into turning those bulbs into flowers and your garlic won't be as large had you snipped the scapes off!
I dehydrated them and ran them through the blender to make garlic scape powder! I'll be uploading that video in the next few weeks! 16 garlic scapes made about 7 1/2 teaspoons of garlic scape powder!

Good morning Rain, Your butterfly is beautiful! and so is your sunrise-I am still working on those over the lake. Your food sounds delicious, loved that you dried all the garlic tops. I am off to watch your videos.
I love your butterfly art! The shadow underneath really makes the butterfly lift right off the page! I've never used solvent to blend Prismacolor pencils -- in fact, I've never even heard of that method! Will have to check out a YouTube tutorial or something.
Posts with embedded comments are MUCH harder to comment on at the moment. Love your creations (culinary and artistic) and am sure that Miriam will be proud to have been your inspiration for that beautiful piece.
Hello Rain, I love all your art, the butterfly and sunrise are favorites. Your furbabies are adorable, they all look so comfy. We have two large blueberry bushes but the birds and critters get to them before they can be picked. Your pull apart bread looks and sounds delicious. I have never heard of garlic scapes, is it ground to be used as a season like garlic salt? Take care, enjoy your day!
The butterfly turned out really beautifully, Rain. The sunrise is fabulous, I will watch your video a little bit later. Oh, and the pull apart bread - that looks so delicious and I'm sure it tastes wonderful. I make a no knead bread with whole wheat flour; it's very popular in my household.
Cloudia, if I have the time I will harvest more blueberries for the freezer for sure! They take a surprisingly LONG time to pick though, so maybe next summer! (I say that now lol)
That sunrise painting knocks me out! I love it! And all your food... I think we're having pizza for dinner tonight because nothing got defrosted and Rick's not a big eggs-for-dinner kind of guy, unlike me! Happy week. (Oh and love the pet trio on the bed!)
Blogger has recently become unable to deal with comments from commenters who have cookies turned off. Recently, some browsers began to automatically turn off cookies and to prohibit other ways that predatory advertisers track your activity on the web. Evidently, the comments were collateral damage to this effort at protection of your privacy. I'm not sure if this is all correct but it's my understanding that it's why a lot of people have a new problem.
I don't know, what I done... and can write now a comment. Hurrah.

Hi Rain! Hope you are having a wonderful week. That butterfly and sunrise are fab creations! Love seeing your bread, fruit and garlic and herbs, and the food...yum! I'll be back to link later, but wanted to pass on some additional Tex-Mex tortilla lingo: your first photo of the breakfast chalupa looks like when you pick it up you can bend the tortilla almost to a taco shape (almost) -- that's a chalupa. Now, in your second photo with the potatoes, that tortilla looks either skillet fried or deep fried until crisp and you could pick the tortilla up on an edge and it's so crispy it doesn't bend at all without breaking -- THAT's called a Tostada. LOL, I know, picky picky. One very favorite Tex-Mex menu item round these parts is called a summer salad tostada - crispy flat taco with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, taco meat, beans, grated cheeses and salza. It's usually treated like a side salad. Then, there's the Queso Chip, a fried flat crispy tortilla smothered/covered with smooth yellow-white queso cheese. These 2 are usually served together, either by themselves as a salad plate or accompanying the main meal (ie, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, carne guisada, etc., with rice, beans and guacamole). Dang it, I just made myself so hungry! heehee. Later! xoxo
Hi Rain. I agree, that Google comment line is often something of a nuisance and I can't always tell if my comments are reaching out. Google does have a habit of changing things that work perfectly well. "If it's not broken don't fix it"
Imagine having too many blueberries? Ours are mostly imported from counties thousands of miles away so really can't taste anything like your own. I can't get my head around what garlic scapes are so I will have to Google it. Meanwhile we are trying to grow some in pots from garlic brought back from Greece and some from shop bought Spanish garlic.
You did a great job with the butterfly, Rain. Congratulations! The best blueberries I ever had were ones I picked wild in northern Ontario near Timmins. We had to keep a close eye out for bears who are equally fond of them, and in reality need them to help to prepare for hibernation.
Your morning faces are similar to mine. You have to love it, don't you? And that's a wonderful sunrise painting. I love native blueberry season. We have them here. I made a blueberry crumb cake loaf the other day. I will have to share that. I need to try some garlic too. I didn't know about scapes. Or chalupas. Wow, I had forgotten about Grandma in the Tweety Cartoons ... Love your painting of her. You really do a great job with your cartoon characters. I really love the prismmacolor Red spotted Blue Admiral Butterfly ... I don't think you veered off very far, it looks great to me. I think that anyone who has pets who treats them as family will know what it is to be greeted by them first thing in the morning. We have talked about this before, right:) I wouldn't have it any other way. A beautiful sunrise ... intense for sure and your trees are wonderful( I still have trouble making trees look real in a painting :( As for your food ... I love the idea of pull apart bread and I love what you put in it ... It might be in my future :) I love anything Mexican as long as it isn't too hot ... Hey Sis! As you know I have been pretty ill. Today I am up and that's a good thing. LOL Great face entry this week, well every week. I am so glad the basil is doing well. Mine, for some reason is not. I mean it's good and I use it but it doesn't seem to want to grow. LOL. It looks like this type of food may be in my past. boo hoo hoo. Great videos today too.

Yummy! :-D As for the disappearing comments: I've found that the comments aren't really "gone", but that for some unknown reason the machine recognized them as spam and therefore have to be released manually by the blog operator. Unfortunately, this happens again and again since a system change... The photo of the Red-spotted Admiral butterfly is wonderful, as is your painting of it. And every morning you are presented with a wonderful sight - either of your sweet menagerie or of the dreamlike sunrise! Luckily I already had dinner, otherwise I would have to lick the screen now because of your delicious food photos. But a few blueberries would still work ;-) It's great that you have so many of them in your garden! I also want to thank you for sharing your blackout experiences with me and my readers - 7 days in these conditions was definitely tough. But you learned so much from it - I think that's important! Comments going to embedded texts are often going to spam. I try to check my spam at least twice a day. I found the comment you left me a couple of days ago in my spam folder and my comments aren't embedded.
Your butterfly is lovely. I was very impressed. I also like your beautiful sunrise you drew.
Isn't it fun to wake to your wonderful pets looking and asking when they will be fed (GRIN)? One of mine (yes, Squiggles) wakes me when he wants to be fed, whether I have just gone to sleep or slept a few hours.
Your bread looks delicious and your chalupa looks like something I might eat. Potatoes of any type are my weakness, so I would eat the potatoes with salsa or the chalupa.
I had to laugh at your basil. For me, it is the easiest thing in the world to grow from seed. I suggest finding a farmer's cooperative where they sell seed in bulk. The seed will last for at least five years (mine has and I bought 1/8th lb) and still produce more basil than you will be able to eat each year. Use a small spoon and sprinkle some of the seeds on good potting soil. Within days you will see the fruits of your labor. More basil than you can harvest in a single week. and it just keeps coming and coming.
I hope this doesn't wind up in spam. Have a super happy week, Rain. Sorry I couldn't play this week, dear.
Rain - I love the photo of Jack, Oscar and Raven - they look so happy together! Blueberries - around here, huckleberries are ripening, about two weeks later than normal. Need to get picking!
