SEVEN days after I planted my seeds (8 plants in total) THREE of them are already sprouting! How exciting! I will make an UNeducated guess that my knitted plant cozies are working lol...I have so much success with my seedlings in that window but when I plant into the ground, nada. Maybe I need to figure out the soil requirements a little more.
The garlic patch. Ha. Those lattice boards are 6 feet tall btw, that'll give you an idea of the snow that's been dumped on us THUS FAR. Now that I have some success in my window garden, I'm ready to update you on the winter garden. It AIN'T happenin'. My cold frames are buried despite my efforts to keep them snow-free. So I have no clue what's going on under the snow and ice...I guess spring will reveal all! I'm not going to give up on winter gardening, but I will for now until we settle down and have the proper equipment and tools to make it work. Greenhouse and grow lights are what I'm thinking about in the future!

As many people are aware (at least you SHOULD be aware) today is National Pizza Day so I'm off to knead some pizza dough! :) To my Instagram friends, thank you, today is a much better day. :)

ReplyDeleteGood gosh, you have a lot of snow! Feel free to send some of it our way as we're still very short for the winter and it's gonna be a dry spring if we don't get more. A dry spring means the threat of forest fires around here and we sure don't want that.

hey maybe you will be surprised and find a garden full of stuff in the spring! wouldn't that be something?! we are in for a few warm days and i am going to work in the garage and set up my grow area. have a fun pizza night. i just had detroit style pizza for the first time yesterday and it was great!

ReplyDeleteI didn't know it is Pizza Day, until I read it, on another blog! But we have chicken in the crock pot, going all day. With mushrooms and a delicious sauce from Mushroom Soup with Garlic, and cooking sherry. And later, some sour cream. to be on rice. It is one of our favorite meals.
Hooray for your window garden. Sorry about the winter garden, but yes, I'd think a greenhouse or poly tunnel, would be the best, for winter gardening.
What a great, green thumb you have. Mine is horrible. I always forget to water the orchids. One I'm trying to "save" by watering it and the other is having its 2nd or 3rd blooming. It's a Trader Joe's plant too.
ReplyDeleteOh and thank you for your sweet support. I'll try to get the recipe from my mum; it uses canned salmon. She's been making it forever. I understand how WP can be hard to navigate around and figure out. It took me a while but I have the basic, personal plan where I can have a somewhat, custom URL. I used to use Blogger but I wanted to own my content. I only use 5 lb barbells on my own. I want to get a slightly heavier one for tricep lifts and for side bends. It feels good to be back to the burn. I'm so sore right now though.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know your cold frames are well-insulated. ;) I'm thinking the greenhouse will need a steep angle built in or you'll be out moving snow off it all winter.

Like Mama Pea, we are very short of snow this year. 2" yesterday and they plowed the streets! Probably just because they haven't needed to all season.

ReplyDeleteThere has been too much snow this year. I'm. Tired. Of. It. I'm guessing it'll all melt by...um...June? LOL Maybe we'll get a beautiful month of March and an early spring to make up for it!
That’s a lot of snow and I know I would be mad about it too..Don’t worry - spring is on the way and things will soon change. you’ll be able to wok in the garden again. I’d be angry if I couldn’t get outside and things needed doing.

ReplyDeleteUnless I'm keeping a plant indoors, it's too early to start seeds for outside yet. We too have snow, but not that much. Yikes. When you dry your chamomile, do not dry it upside down on an herb rack. Dry them flat or in a dehydrator. One year I left them dry flat all over the kitchen table and my cats ate them. I'm so glad I have my dehydrator now.

ReplyDeleteNow I'm concerned for my garden as we'll be gone almost all of March when I should be out there cleaning up and readying for Spring! A lot of daffodil/bluebell bulbs are poking through - I'm hoping my tulips don't all bloom early as I'll miss them!
Yes, I have my dough ready to work - a quick cheese and veggie pizza early evening before we head to the theatre to see "Little Shop of Horrors" - always a fun production - taking daughter and granddaughter with us.

ReplyDeleteHi Stefanie :) I'd love that recipe :) I have some fresh salmon in the freezer so that would be nice to use it! I'd be sore too from the weights. But it's amazing how quickly your body heals and gets stronger. Since I've been doing leg exercises, I have pretty much zero pain in my legs when I wake up in the morning, I love that! I baby my plants a lot I must admit! :)

I had one of those "Tempo" temporary garages one year and it was flat and boy did it swag under the snow if I didn't diligently shovel it off. Our village has wonky hours for the snow plows...they only pass when you don't need to get out lol! :)

ReplyDeleteSnow, snow , snow. Ughh. Well, it can't last much more than 8 more weeks! Good for you planting seeds already. I used to do that many years ago. Now they either get planted right in the garden soil, or I buy plants. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a greenhouse? -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThat's a hellofalotof snow! I do miss snow though. I just don't like shoveling the white stuff either. Also, living in the city......it looks so gross once all the cars go through it and it turns all nasty grey .

Hi Jenn :) Thanks, the seedlings are really boosting my mood this winter. What is up with the snow??? 8 weeks somehow sounds quicker than 2 months lol! I would LOVE to have a huge greenhouse in my back yard. Imagine homegrown lettuce and tomatoes all winter? That would be amazing. I hope to achieve that in the future! :)

It does get pretty ugly a lot of the time with the sand and salt they throw on the streets. I always said that spring in Montreal was like a slushy, swampy, ugly mess.

ReplyDeleteMy pepper seedlings have almost all sprouted, and are growing well. The home-made grow tent seems to be working well. Now to see if I can get my new little greenhouse setup so that I can see how much effort I need to put into keeping IT warm so I can move the seedlings outside as soon as possible. Probly not for another month at least though, unless spring turns really warm (which I don't expect).

ReplyDeleteIf I don't think about them now I don't get much of a crop. Our actual growing season is to short. So I start them WAY early, and do grow lights, and then a little outdoor greenhouse, so that they're nice and big by the time I can plant them in mid May.

unlike you our ground gives little better results than pot
though this year due to construction work my garden is barren and sad ,so am i but hopes never leave me i think in march there will be some colouring of blooms in my front yard hopefully

No gardening for me this year except indoors. I'm not resting until I get this house in shape to sell. Okay, maybe some herbs but that's all! I swear! LOL!
Hi Sam :) I'm sure you can use your tablet. I use Instagram mostly from my laptop on Chrome with that extension I mentioned on your blog. It works just fine! Ha! Just herbs...I wonder if you'll be able to help yourself! ;) It's hard not to be gardening...I started so slowly a few years back with just herbs and flowers, now I wish I could do every vegetable out there lol...I did manage to knit plant cozies for all 8 of the pots! All of them are germinating, except the chives and the Marigold flowers so far!
