Hello friends :)
Today the theme for Michael's Scribble Picnic is "Let's Dance".
Evil yet misunderstood black-hat wearing cowboy outlaw: "Let's dance..."
Translation: Let's try to kill each other.
I saw a photo of the poster ad for the movie "High Noon" and thought of this phrase! If you have a chance to see it, it's a wonderful Gary Cooper movie!
I had some fun with this one. Do you remember Escape, the Pina Colada song? :) Tweety can't help himself! Nor can I lol :)
Here's a little minute and a half clip for you Tweety fans. This is the first time Tweety and Sylvester were ever paired (in 1947) according to Warner Brothers. :)
Well, Michael, you've gone and done it. I am so into the drawing challenge that I beefed up my drawing supplies! I have some soft pastels on the way too!
My first love will always be my paints though. :) Still on the same theme of "Let's Dance", this is the dance of the snowflakes in the woods. :) It's been very snowy lately and despite the shoulder aching shoveling duties, I'm really enjoying my winter this year. I think it's because I've realized that all I want to do all winter is create art, make yummy food and take care of my furry kids and Alex. Really, I'd be happy to do that for the rest of my life! Speaking of food...
Roasted Chicken with Root Veggies. This is fall off the bone if you brine the chicken for 4-6 hours!
Papas Fritas: Leftover chicken with potatoes, Homemade Salsa and Monteray Jack cheese. Comfort!
Chicken Parm Paninis. You prepare breaded chicken and layer the panini with some Marinara sauce, Parm and Mozzarella (or Provolone if you have it) and it is really delicious! I have one of those fake George Foreman grills and it works really well for grilled cheese and paninis. :)
Poor little Pavlov! Wearing the cone...on a side note, when did they fancy up these collars??? I don't remember them ever having designs on them! Anyway...he has some kind of irritation on his chin and between his toes. We are trying to heal him at home before taking him to the vet on Friday. We do have a good vet team who suggests home solutions first so I'm very thankful for that. He kept licking his paws to the point where he developed sores. :( We are disinfecting the areas twice a day and applying some polysporin. So far the redness is going away but I feel just awful making him wear this!
I'll leave you today with my last week's drawings. Do you have a favourite hobby? Are you open to discovering new ones? I never thought I'd enjoy drawing as much as I do! :) The goal of the challenge is to draw something every day and I haven't missed one day yet since I started on January 20th! Too much fun! :)
On boy, you will see that I was wearing a black hat on my blog today. I like to watch gary cooper, he was the Virginian back in 28 I think, I'm not sure how much acting he had to do in those old westerns as he lived out there for awhile growing up.

ReplyDeleteThere used to be a commercial on TV (maybe for Canadian Tire? I don't remember) but it featured two old geezers meeting in a store, who once were bitter hockey rivals on the ice. One geezer drops his mitts like they do before a hockey fight and the other takes out his dentures and says "Let's dance!" The ad didn't stay on TV very long before it disappeared. I suspect the powers-that-be felt it sent the wrong message to kids about violence.

ReplyDeletePoor Pavlov is right. I'm no expert but I would think the designs on the collars would be distracting or downright confusing to the animals. Wouldn't just the plain plastic be less invasive? (Not sure that's the right word though.) :o/
I sure enjoy seeing your drawings. I was never good at drawing. Have you ever seen a movie called Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russel? (maybe me favourite movie ever) I thought of it when you mentioned Gary Cooper above...he's not in the movie but it mentioned during a funny scene.

ReplyDeleteRain~ I love this interpretation of the theme. It's beyond perfect. To see the gun fighter between the legs in the distance..I'm a fan of the old Gunsmoke series and was watching it today...I think that might be Matt Dillon of Dodge City.

Great sketch! And nice 'outside of the box' thinking again. I think I watched High Noon in my younger years. I was a huge fan of Country and Western movies back in the day. Have you ever seen 'Broken Arrow' with James Stewart? That is still a favourite of mine. I loved John Wayne movies...also Audie Murphy movies.

One of my fur kids recently had to wear the cone due to skin irritation which caused him to scratch and bite at himself. His cone is new and plain, clear plastic. I feel short-changed. hehe

Were all your pictures done with the colored pencils other than the snow scene? I'm intimidated by trying to use color, but you make it look easy. My favorite is the western one; something about how you framed it really caught my eye.

Poor Pavlov. It is hard to see animals looking so sad with the cone, but it is needed to help them get better. I hope his appointment goes well.

The Pina Colada song! My gosh, it's been so long. I'm listening to it as I type this. What a fun tune that is. When I'm done with that I'll check out the Tweety and Sylvester clip. I didn't know it dates all the way back to 1947!

I haven't had breakfast yet and seeing all that good food has me starving right now. But that happens all the time when I visit your blog. I get hungry for some reason. hahaha
Oh, Pavlov...hehehe...you big, gorgeous flower! I hope he's doing much better. It is sad to see them with these things on but they tend to handle the situation better than we do :)
I have a few favourite hobbies and I'm always open to new ones. My latest addition is drawing!
High Noon is a great classic western. Great drawing which brought back great memories.
ReplyDeleteAre those Prisma Pencils I see? I love mine but I am not talented like you are. I use a coloring book with my pencils LOL. What kind of pencils did you order for pastels?
I think I could come and live at your house for a winter. All that lovely food you make and with the pretty snow falling. Investing in a snow blower would be my first order of business though. Shoveling is too hard on the back, shoulder, legs and hands for this old arthritic soul.
The cone of shame is so much nicer than they were years ago. They now have inflatable ones that don't seem so harsh on the poor babies. I love the paw prints on Pavlov's though.

ReplyDeleteI am no expert but would Pavlov's irritations be linked to food? One of my old dogs Willow had that around her mouth and feet. She would lick her feet nonstop and scratch at her mouth and chin until sores developed. The vet thought it would be a food allergy. And I can only speak from experience on that one with our Hunter! Do Pavlov's feet turn a rusty brown?
Do you sleep at night ... it would seem to me your brain is always on high speed and your body tries to keep up. I love what you do, all of it ... the picture of the evil cowboy, the food, tweety and all of your weeks drawings(you are way ahead of me, I can't seem to manage drawing every day). I know I am in for some wonderful entertainment when I come to your place. Good thing, though, that I don't live next door or I would be probably be a rolly polly from eating all of your goodies. Great job ... Great fun. Love it all ...

I suck at drawing, so I always get a kick out of looking at the skills of others. I love Tweety Bird, and I always love to dance whenever I can. Something about it is so freeing. I have used oil paint, pastels, pencils, but never *conquered* pastels. Maybe why I am reluctant to take any up again, is.... That all I could do, was "copy" someone else's work. I copied pretty impressionists, in pastels. I (tried to) copy a fav oil painting. Etc.
So... Perhaps... What stops me is.... The realization, that I don't seem to have my own ideas. Maybe..? Than maybe, I'm just lazy. ,-)
Keep showing all you do!!!!! I just might get inspired, eventually. :-)
Gary Cooper was a dream boat! The silent but sexy one. I am such a huge fan of most things animated - Looney Tunes and Warner Bros. were/are among my favs. Oh, good for you, Rain! It's such fun to find your passion and throw yourself into it. You are one talented gal (on all fronts). Can Pavlov's irritated paws and chin be due to a food allergy? Peanut came to me with red, itchy paws (between the toes) and was scratching and itching constantly. I changed his food to grain free, seafood only and it went away. I found an inflatable cone when my dear Scrappy needed it - it did the job without taking everything within a meter out around him!

ReplyDeleteI have always felt most pups look guilty while wearing "the cone of shame." The last clinic I worked in stocked the soft cones they were solid and soft. From my own experience with my pups was they would always scare the pants off themselves if they scrapped the collar on a door entry they didn't clear. But in the end it is for the best. No fun to have to stitch back up the neuter or spay that was opened up by a dog who had a sympathetic owner and removed the collar.

ReplyDeleteHi Tpals :) Lol...cold cereal can have its good qualities lol :) The Western Let's Dance was with the new Prismacolor pencils and I used a blending pencil to soften it up and blend it the various colours. It was my first attempt and I'm getting better each day! The Tweety bird and the other drawings were done with markers and with old Crayola pencils that aren't that great quality. I've got some pastels on the way and I can't wait to try them!

I hope you start to paint again, it is true that it's great for the mind and heart! :)

ReplyDeleteI ALWAYS have "buyer's remorse" when I get anything for myself, but this time, there was none of that lol! I LOVE the art supplies! You have to get those blenders Martha, they really are a dream to use once you get used to them. I suspect I will need to buy more soon because I'm 1/3 way through one of the two I bought just from sharpening and using it! I love them!
Pavlov is a little bugger because he got the flower cone off his head and started to lick the toes again...so we have to restart the treatment and sigh, make the cone tighter. :( I'm sure he'll be fine if he just leaves it alone!!

ReplyDeleteThey are stick of pigment and I love that they can be used wet or dry. I watched a few You Tube videos for technique and I can't wait for them to arrive to I can try them out!
I like the idea of the inflatable cone of shame...Pavlov has a LOT of fur so at least I know it's not digging into his skin. If it were Jack, I would worry a little more because he barely has any fur on him. I'm tempted to hire a snow service for next winter...

We rescheduled the appointment to Monday to give it a few more days. I hate running to the vet out of desperation. ReplyDeleteHi Wisps of Words :) Pavlov only knows that he's getting lots more attention with the cone on, so I think he doesn't mind! ;) I don't always have my own ideas when it comes to the art stuff either. But I try to get an idea from an image and make it my own. I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all! This is how I start to think of my own ideas, it springs from others. :) I'm excited to try the pastels!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan :) I agree, Gary Cooper was a dreamboat! :) I laughed so loud when you said that Scrappy took everything out within a meter of him lol...we often will hear sccccrape...and smmmmack against the walls when Pavlov is trying to find his girth, poor silly. Dianna (above) also mentioned the possibility of a food allergy. He's been eating the same kibble since the summer...BUT...I did buy a different brand of rice just before his symptoms showed up. We give them rice with their kibble...so I stopped the rice as of this morning and I'm going to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the tip! :)

We do when he goes in the yard, but we have to constantly watch him. Same with dinner time, as soon as he's done, the collar goes back on!

In fact, two of them, no less. the cowboy one is seriously clever as of course that is something they would say! I love the angle you chose and the movie is great too (as is anything with Tweety in it!). Your snowflake one is gorgeous and I’m also loving your daily sketches—need to catch up with you on Instagram too. I really love the red mushromm fairly like one. Wonderful stuff.

ReplyDeleteOh gosh I hate grocery shopping...I do not like to drive on the highways and it's the only way I can get to the stores. One of the reasons I dropped it down to once a month because I also can't handle crowds!! I'm more comfy in the kitchen!! Pavlov seems to be getting better, fingers crossed!!

At least that's my excuse lol! :) I think Pavlov is on the mend. Healing the pets at home always takes a little longer, but it seems to be working!

ReplyDeleteYou have gotten so good with your drawings and glad you enjoy it so much. I have way too m any things I enjoy....thus never finishing things. The food looks scrumptious and I have a George Foreman but I never thought of using it as a panini maker. I wrapped a clean brick in foil and used that when I made paninis.
Poor Pavlov....could it be a food allergy? Usually when they itch between their toes it can be that. Have you tried some Benadryl? You might have to give her a bunch for her size but there is also a spray Benadryl that I use on mosquito bites and it stops them from itching. A small bottle lasts forever.
The food looks so yummy and the papas fritas especially...yummo!

Hi Sam :) That's a good idea about the brick. Sometimes if the paninis are too thick, the little grill thingy doesn't work. But we use it for grilled cheese too, it squishes everything really well! :) Thank you :) I'm really enjoying the new art endeavor! :) Pavlov...not sure about an allergy. Our cat Oscar takes a little prednisone every other day for a "mystery" allergy so we gave some to Pavlov, and it seemed to clear the toes right up. We're still watching him though, just in case he starts to lick again.
