Hi Everyone :)
Today's theme for the Scribble Picnic is "Storm". This is a mixed watercolour/acrylic/Prismacolor pencil "Lightning" scribble I did last night. (Follow the link for more stormy art, or why not join in yourself?) :)
This is my abstract watercolour version of a storm.
And my Looney Tunes tribute of the week: The Tasmanian Devil. :) Taz always kicks up a storm wherever he goes, though sometimes it leaves him quite confused as to what just happened! :)
Here's a little one-minute clip of a funny scene with Bugs and Taz. They don't make cartoons like they used to! So, that's the storm, now for the calm...
Pavlov and Stella left us on Monday. They were so excited to see their owner and they are safely in Morocco now. They will be missed, I admit, I'm a little down about this...I'm just happy that Alex and I were able to give them a secure and loving home for the last eight months. :) Our three cats are relieved lol...and our three dogs are so quiet now! Jack and Marlene seem fine, but I think that Charlie misses her boyfriend Pavlov! (I miss him too!)
Of course, I had to make the Spoiled Dog Cake!! :)

I painted this yesterday, it's kind of how I've been feeling lately...my heart strings pulled and all that! But a little art therapy does wonders. :)
That loose aggressive husky that we found in our yard during the late winter is back. We saw him the other day milling around the yard. Of course, the lazy dog catcher told us already that she will do nothing about it; so we had to invest in some rather inexpensive green snow fence to wrap around all the loose spots in the yard. It really sucks that we had to spend that money, but we need to keep our dogs and ourselves safe. Since we're moving next year, we didn't want to invest too much, but this stuff works!
And we stopped by our mechanic's garage yesterday too, picked up a bunch of old tires we're going to clean out and prep for potato planting. We have to figure out how much room we have, because we can go get more tires anytime for free. Today is all about potatoes! :) Hope you all enjoy your day!

So their owner actually did show up as promised and take them back? That's great news. I was suspicious that he was BSing you again.

ReplyDeleteI love your paintings of storms. We had a doozy of one last night which was scary but somewhat exciting. In the end, we got a beautiful rainbow.
Dogs have a way of sneaking into our hearts, I hope that you recover your equilibrium soon.
ReplyDeleteYour scribble art Storm is very evocative, I was taken straight back to a storm at sea, off the Norfolk coast, that I watched about 40 years ago. It was magnificent, better than any firework display that i have seen.
We may soon have zero dogs here if the kids apartment is approved. I'm sure we'll get our own if it happens. It will be so strange without them. I'm hoping to roll some old tires out to the back pasture to plant weeds in soon. I need to paint them though.
ReplyDeleteLove the art esp the Looney Tunes....I feel that way a lot...LOONEY! haha...Sorry, I know that you hated to see the furbabes leave but you also need that burden lifted from you. I hope they will be well cared for. Moving....so you are moving in a yr. I hate the thoughts of ever having to pack up anything in this house to move. Although I am packing up stuff to store and stuff to get rid of, still moving makes me hurt more than normal! HAHA....I am sorry you are feeling a bit blue, my advice, LAUGH! When you start feeling that way look around and find something to laugh about. I do it all the time. I bust out laughing out loud at things that I find to make me happy...even in stores. HAHA. Bet folks think I am that CRAZY lady..Yep, niece has 7 of her own horses and two folks board there, about 6 dogs, a ton of chickens, two sheep, and a cow. Not to mention that she raises bunnies for sale. She has 40 some odd acres of land, a great barn and the room. Me, one horse is killing me! The cost is crazy. Hoping you have a great day.

What's this? Moving next year? Have you found your dream place or are you gearing up to look? You need a proper garden, young lady! Even so, you can produce more than most people I know off of your windowsills. I know what you mean about missing your two boarders. I think things will level out and I am sure it will be much easier with your usual crew. I'm glad the owner did the right thing, finally. Love your bright sunshine!

ReplyDeleteWhat loyal dogs they were to remember their owner. I hope he gives them a good home overseas and makes it up to them. I can't believe the dog catcher won't hunt that husky down. It could harm someone or even get hurt itself from wildlife. How neat you'll be using tires for a potato garden; pls show how that works.
ReplyDeleteI loved envisioning your porch knitting and sittings. How lovely to have that. Oh, the Cobb salad was hella good! Unfortunately, I didn't remember the bowl of leftovers was in the Target bags and my daughters had left it in the living room. Sadly I didn't find the salad until Sunday; what a waste.
enjoyed the read, especially the dogs and the cake. We have been busier than a Bee here, trying to solve some problems with my sisters dementia.

Glad to see you included lightning in your storm paintings. That's one of the most impressive parts about storms, if you're in a safe place to watch it!

We've usually just planted potatoes in the ground, or not at all, but this year we're trying them in large containers. Will have to see how that works. Hope yours do well for you!

I have heard of the tire potato growing before but never seen it done. I am glad I get to watch you do it.

ReplyDeleteIt would have been a bittersweet moment seeing the dogs you had in your care for eight months go back to their owner. We definitely become attached. I only hope that Pavlov and Stella will be as spoiled by their owner as they were with you. It's good that they were happy to see him — that's always a good sign. Life can return to normal for you now. Will you stay in touch with the owner?
I hope the makeshift fence does the trick at keeping the husky at bay. I wonder why the dog-catcher won't do a thing about it? Do you know who the husky belongs to? Perhaps a note in their mailbox detailing the problem may help? Good luck.
At least you can look forward to moving away next year.

Too bad about that uncooperative dog catcher. I wonder how she would feel if something happened to someone - it had better not! Good luck with your potato planting.

ReplyDeleteIn several locations we've lived, I have found Animal Control to be pretty useless when it comes to nuisance dogs. They are also very difficult to even reach here. We've been told that if we catch and contain the animal they will take it away, but that's a pretty scary and nearly impossible proposition for a person who is afraid of the animal and who doesn't have the means to do that. An Animal Control officer will, though, contact the owners if we happen to know who the owners are. I guess the idea is that if someone official contacts the offending party, it will scare the dog owner into some kind of responsible action.
ReplyDeleteWe've known of pets being removed from a home if they are neglected, but I have not known anyone, personally, who's had Animal Control work on behalf of someone who reports a dog as a nuisance or perceived danger. Perhaps I just don't understand the role of Animal Control. Or perhaps it is a low-priority in governmental services. I don't know. But you do have my sympathy. It's a very difficult situation you are left with. I hope your fencing protects your beloved dogs.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, exciting and sad all at the same time. Your artwork is awesome especially the "feelings" one where you are being pulled in so many directions. I have days like that ... in fact anyone who has pets has had to say goodbye. It is never easy, but at least your pets are leaving alive and well and with someone who loves them (though I have to wonder about anyone who would leave the pets with you for months and months) ... really not fair. Love your Loony toons ... I still say you should work for Disney free lance :) Potatoes in tires? That is a first for me, but why not ... I have never grown potatoes, such a fun idea. Well, Rain, you have outdone yourself once again. Do ever so enjoy visiting you :)

ReplyDeleteHi Kristina :) Oh, that'll be weird not having dogs in the house! After my pugs passed away, I think I was dogless for about 8 months and I just couldn't do it any longer...then of course, we went nuts at the shelter! You know, I was going to paint the tires, but got a little lazy!
ReplyDeleteHi Pam :) Ha ha ha...I am feeling looney myself lately. Trying to get life back to my routines! I do miss S&P but yes, it was a burden after all and I'm happy they are home with their owner. We are leaving Quebec next year whether we buy or not, well, you know, that's the plan. If we have a big financial emergency the plans will have to be put on hold, but we're doing our best to make it happen. The language politics here are unbearable for English people and honesly, we've reached our limit. LOL...crazy laughing lady! Actually when I first read your comment, I made myself laugh and it really did help!! Your niece is awesome, what energy she must have!!

ReplyDeleteHi Susan :) Yes, we will be moving. The language issues are so annoying that Alex and I have reached our limit and we're leaving Quebec for good. The plan is to buy in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick next spring. If we can't do it, we're still going to leave and rent in one of those provinces. I DO need a proper garden! Though I'm really happy with how the container garden is working out!
ReplyDeleteHi Sandi :) As I mentioned on your blog...the dog catcher is hired to be compliant and basically that is it. She's lazy, lives 45 minutes away and won't answer phone calls. When we send emails we have to cc the mayor of the village for her to react and she got so peeved the last time we did that. She is sloppy and reeks of cigarettes too, she was all up in Alex's face when he confronted her last time she came here, saying everyone hates us and that she won't help us ever again lol...we exposed her. But you know, the town won't do a darn thing about it. We've complained for a few years now with no results. She's someone else's problem now, we're done with her and this town!

At least we know his mom will take good care of them if he doesn't. That dog catcher is lazy. Her solution last time was that trap that did nothing. We figure if we can catch it, we can drop it off at a shelter, but the last time it had its heckles up so...not sure we want to go that far. I'll definitely post updates about the taters! :) Oh, that's too bad about the salad!!! I've done that before too!

ReplyDeleteHi Jolene :) I agree about the lightning! It scares me a lot but I love seeing it. I planted my potatoes in garbage bins last year and it worked really well! I think you'll be successful planting them in containers!

ReplyDeleteHi Serena :) Thank you, I had fun with the storm theme this week! :) The dog catcher...honestly, she's hired on the cheap so the village can be in compliance with regulations about licenses and "canine control". They pay her about $7000 a year (it's in the town's books) but she lives so far away that she never shows up when you need her, IF she answers her phone. She outbids the SPCA and this is the only town left that doesn't have the SPCA as canine control. It's pretty pathetic. She hates us because the only way she would answer us previously was if we sent an email to her, cc-ing the mayor. She pretty much told us she won't help us so don't call her ever again. Blech...good riddance!

ReplyDeleteHi Becki :) Animal control...yes, it is pretty useless. Last year when we saw that same husky, that dog catcher told us the only way she would come is if we caught it ourselves. Even after we told her it growled at us. That's when we sent the email to her cc-ing the mayor. She was cooperative at first then downright b*tchy and told Alex to eff off and that we'd never get her help ever again. It's ridiculous. Basically if you want something done, do it yourself. At least we're renting and we can move away, but if we were owners here, paying taxes...we'd likely take more of a stand with regards to her laziness and inappropriate behaviour.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is the town won't invest more money to hire the SPCA for canine control. Every other town in this county hires the SPCA and they have a decent amount of employees, trucks and a good reputation. One day if the people around here complain enough, the town will have to do something, for now, they are too cheap.

But you're so right, at least they are leaving alive and well and back to their home. :) When we met that guy, he was so responsible and a very doting fur-dad...he got sick and something snapped in him. But at least the dogs are living at his mom's house, we know she'll give them all the love and care they could ever need if ever he declines again. I can't wait to see how my potatoes grow, I'll keep everyone posted! :)

I love your sky behind the lightning and of course The Tasmanian Devil is a brilliant idea for STORM. My favourite is your "pulled heartstrings" one--remind me of "The Fourth Kind" movie actually! :) It very emotive.

Hi Michael :) Thank you :) I saw The Fourth Kind! I'd completely forgotten about that movie, I like those "found footage" types of movies! :) Yes, Morocco, far away! As each day goes by I'm grateful for having S&P in our lives, but also very grateful for having my own life back. It really was hard work, they were so nervous and jumpy the poor things. I'm really seeing the difference now, our three dogs are so good, so well behaved and QUIET! :)
