First Walk of Spring!!

Yesterday Alex and I took our first walk together on the mountain, it was such a nice day!

Not surprisingly though, there was still snow in the woods along the trail.

We wanted to enjoy the mountain before the Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada where the town will be overrun with loud and obnoxious tourists.

And this morning, I was finally able to walk our three on the mountain. I'm so happy! :) I'm still going to avoid going to the mountain on weekends, but at least I can get into my 5-day a week walk routine with the dogs again. :)

I took a 12 second video this morning to show off how obedient my little pack is, enjoy! :)

I've been spending lots of time prepping the garden! I have the two pumpkin patches all dug and dirted... :) ...Alex and I planted 15 containers of seed potatoes and we hope to have a good enough harvest in the fall to tide us over with spuds all winter. As Joyce said to me, I have "tater tires"! :) We're starting with two containers of carrots until I can get some more big containers washed and filled with dirt and compost. The 7 containers of garlic that I planted in the fall are coming up nicely! In about a week or so, I'll be able to transplant some of my seedlings too! It's still chilly at sundown, but the lovely sound of the spring peepers lulls me to sleep each night...I love living in the mountains! :)

  1. The snow will be gone by June! Nice hats, I have a variety of them and have been using the huge ones in the garden on sunny days.

  2. What lovely scenery you have. Jack looks so tiny compared to the other two. They are very good dogs.

You will have some lovely fresh veggies to add to your salads. Yum!

  3. Loved the little video of the dogs being such good dogs! I'm sure they're feeling like things are back to normal in their home now, too.

Yes, gorgeous scenery . . . and what a good start to your gardening season in your back yard! Where there's a will, there's a way, eh?

  7. Your dogs are the best!!!!!!!!!

And well behaved dogs, reflect the care and training, they are given. One of our daughter-in-laws has dogs and takes such good care/training of them.

Hooray for being able to walk, again. And for you to walk , weekdays. I remember a problem you had, with actually being afraid of where you were walking. That must be in the past.

    Hooray for your gardening!!!!!

So the town you live in, gets icky tourists. -sigh- Good you can enjoy your walks, during the week. In summer, our city is always filled with tourists. But we know, the back streets, and to go out to do errands, early. :-)

  9. It’s so great to see well behaved dogs. I love hiking but don’t like when people let their dogs run up to me. I was attacked by a dog on a trail once and I have been nervous ever since. You are a good owner. Please tell your trio they are good dogs and very polite. :-)

  10. The weather change looks amazing from a month ago. We are already into high summer here - 37 C and going up from there.

  11. What a beautiful place you live in to be able to walk in the mountains with your dogs!! And such excellent and obedient dogs they are! I loved the short video! Love your voice! Isn't it funny that hearing your voice makes you seem more 'real' to me???

  12. What a lovely picture of you both, and so stylish too :D
Your planters look great. I've been digging and planting, but I've overdone it again, so today will have to be a rest day.
    Have a lovely weekend.x

  13. At first glance, I thought those were cats on leashes! :) haha

Your Alex looks a little like Leonardo DiCaprio!

  14. Very well behaved dogs, indeed! Your container gardening is very interesting. You must also have a garden patch, your pumpkins, right? Do you plant anything else, not in a container? -Jenn

  15. I loved the short video, and hearing your voice, Rain. What sweet dogs. And I'm not even a dog person. Though we did have a sweet lab for several years and I miss the family walks we'd take with her in the early evenings. And how lovely is the place you have to walk!

  18. Thanks Marsha :) Yes, Jack is a tiny fella compared to the girls! I can't wait for my garden to take bloom! :)

  19. Hi Mama Pea :) Our three dogs are really good...they were bratty when S&P were here, kind of forgot their manners lol...things are back to normal! Funny...you reminded me of a joke where a woman was asking her husband to fix something...he kept saying it can't be done and finding excuses, she said "where there's a will, there's a way" so he said "you show me Will, I'll show him the way"...that always made me laugh! :)

  20. Hi Pam :) Working in the dirt makes me VERY happy!!! I do love it! I just wish I could do more. :) Congrats on your maters!! :)

  21. Thanks Joyce :) Ha ha ha....tater tire tots! That's funny. I'm pretty proud of how we were able to give S&P a good home...they likely would have ended up in a shelter, sigh.

  22. Thanks Christine :) It's nice to get out in the woods again!

  23. Thanks Wisps of Words :) I LOVE our pack! :) Well, honestly...I have my doubts about walking around here. There are some seedy characters and too many loose dogs...but as long as I get out before 8am I'm pretty safe. The tourists are very loud...somehow they think it's their playground and they are free to make as much noise and mess as they want, blech!

  24. Thanks Debra :) We've totally become hat people! :)

  25. Thanks Birdie :) I'm the same way, I love dogs, I love hiking, but keep those dogs on a leash. I told the trio that Auntie Birdie said they are good and polite, and I got several wet kisses for you! ;)

  28. Thanks Yarrow :) I'm itching to get my seedlings out, but I need to wait another week or so! Then I'll be overdoing it probably! I hope you feel better! xx

  30. Thanks Jenn :) Last year I dug up a little spot for the pumpkins and I made a small fence around it and built a raised bed. I did another one this year for the sugar pumpkins. But since we're renting that's about all I can dig up. Everything else is in containers.

  31. Thanks Becki :) It's a really nice place to walk along the mountain, but only in early mornings and in non-tourist times. I wish we had that at our disposal all the time without having to deal with lots of other people!

  32. Thanks Lisa :) It's SO nice to be out with the pack again! :)

  33. What a great hike you had with your husband and your dogs. You're going to be doing some serious planting in your garden.

  34. OH MY GOSH...your hats! I love them. You both look adorable :) I can just imagine how overjoyed you are to be able to walk the dogs again. Good stuff. Look at you in that video...the dog whisperer of Quebec! LOL That is cool. Isn't it wonderful to be able to spend more time outdoors now that winter is finally gone? I am loving it.

  35. What a joy for all of you! I know you miss the two visitors, but what a relief it must be to get back to normal. I know what you mean about weekends and holidays. We are inundated with traffic and nimrods. Now it's all loud motorcycles and idjuts on ATVs tear-assing up and down the roads, kicking up dust.

  36. I hope that all remnants of snow disappear soon. It’s planting time.

You both look great in the pictures. I love your hats.

  42. Love the photo of you and Alex, Rain! And what well behaved dogs you have. I never heard of planting potatoes in stacked tires until I read your posts. I'm curious to see how that works, since my father's people planted potatoes in PEI. Good luck!
