Thursday Art Date: Creatures In The Night & Paint Party Friday!

Hello Friends :)

Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Creatures In The Night! What type of creature have you created today? Is it animal, human or supernatural? Bugs is learning to fly as Dracula, he's trying to expand his range so he can get more acting roles in the horror genre. 😊

By the way, I've added more themes for future art dates, click here to check them out! Also, I'm going to change things up a bit - the link widget will be open for more than one day. Cathy, you suggested that a while ago and I think it makes more sense!! From now on, anyone who wants to contribute will have up until Sunday night to post their link for the theme. 😊

Ever since I had such success with my Frankenstein's Monster watercolour, I've been using a layering technique in my watercolours and I'm loving the results! I used the same technique for Bela Lugosi as Dracula. This is just the beginning in a series of portraits I intend on doing - for Halloween and beyond!!

Here's my watercolour take on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. These creatures are definitely not pleased after finding their porridge eaten and their beds slept in! What was Goldilocks thinking??? 😲

I've been wanting to join Paint Party Friday for a long time now, but didn't think I could do an art post on Thursdays and on Fridays. But my friend Laurie suggested that I link this Thursday post to the Friday party tomorrow so that's what I'm going to do from now on! 😊

For Paint Party Friday, I decided to try to paint Alex, my hubby. He's a musician and we do photo shoots at home and around the village for his artwork and blog. I painted this from a photo we took over a year ago. I used that same watercolour layering technique - I love how it turned out, so does Alex! Please visit  Paint Party Friday  for more wonderful artwork!

I'm eating again!!! Nearly 3 weeks on soup and pudding doesn't make a person's insides very happy...I'm on soft foods, but at least it's FOOD. My mouth is still sore but improving every day. Thanks for your wonderful wishes of health everyone! I don't want to see another dentist for the rest of my life...Alex and I missed our monthly "anniversary" fondue last week, so we had it last night. It's SO yummy...Smoked Cheddar and Apple Cider Fondue. It's a perfect fall fondue! But...I feel those pounds I lost crawling back up to my waist lol!

That's all for now folks, please check out the link widget below to see more Creatures In The Night artwork! And please join me on Sunday for my food and pets post - there will be some good eats on that post!! πŸ˜‹

  1. I love fondue. I have not done it in years but my daughter enjoys fondue evenings and I have been invited to a few. She has a few pots and we get to enjoy all sorts of goodies. Of course, my favorite is the chocolate.

    Your artwork is very cool.

  2. Very creative Bugs Dracula, wonderful. Your watercolour portraits are beautiful using that layering technique. The fondue looks delicious. Regular checkups at the dentist keep future tooth nightmares at bay, don"t avoid them. Great suggestions from Cathy and Laurie.

  3. Excellent! If only I were more talented! I've been fighting some depression, light levels methinks, and haven't managed anything.

  4. Turns out Bugs is really versatile. He seems to find his way into many of your themes ... Good OL' Buggsy :) Your paintings are wonderful and your husband is quite handsome even as a creature in the night. So glad you are back on food ... it sure was a hard way to lose weight. Hope you are through with dentists for sure. Cheese and cider Fondue ... oh my, I am hungry for such a delicacy. I haven't done Paint Party Friday in forever ... I may have to give it a try. So have you heard anything from Micheal? I often wonder what he is up to. Be well, Rain ... until the pumpkins next week :)

  12. Your Drac Bugs and Goldilocks art made me smile -- they're both terrific! And your Bela Lugosi watercolour -- oh my! Magnificent! I love his glittering intense eyes especially.

And I must say, when I saw your final beautiful watercolour -- I thought it was Johnny Depp! But it's your handsome husband instead, you lucky girl.

  15. Thanks Stefanie :) Soft foods never tasted better!!! :)

  16. Our creatures of the night consist mainly of possums and skunks! The skunks are the worst because they perfume the air as they walk by the bedroom window! Cold nights means closed windows now, so they can come and go without us knowing!

  17. The Bela Lugosi painting is very impressive. Well done!

Sorry about your sore mouth, I had big trouble last year with infected gums and 2 OPs and months of living off yogurt and mashed fruit, so I can empathise! Have a great weekend, greetings from Rhineland to Canada! Hugs, Valerie

  43. I always love seeing your latest creations, Rain! When I saw the three bears, the hair on my arms stood up! I get a chill/shivers each time I look at it. Your portraits of Alex and Bela Lugosi are amazing ~ you have so much talent! I'm glad that you extended the posting time for sharing artwork.. After I get my cataract surgery out of the way on Monday, perhaps I'll have time to start exploring art. It's on the list of things that I wanted to do in my retirement. It's about time!!! Big hugs to you!

  50. Omigosh, Rain! The minute that second portrait you did popped up, I said, "That's Alex!" Of course, I don't know him personally but from the photos I've seen of him, you definitely captured his essence in your painting. What talent!

    ReplyDelete
  51. interesting :) Did not know of this challenge. :) I´m not good at creatures though :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thanks Jan :) I'm really having fun with this new technique!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thanks Mama Pea :) I had to do that painting three times because I couldn't quite get it - I'd been using too much colour. When I switched to mostly black and white, it worked! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hi Monica :) I have a weekly prompt, so feel free to join in anytime! :)

  55. Rain,

Count Bugsula! Great job on Dracula!! Goldilocks was blonde. That's what got her into the world of trouble that she did. lol Mmm, smoked cheddar and apple cider fondue - sounds yummy! We'll see if I get a chance to play along in this week's art date. I've gotta lot of catching up to do. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bugs as a creature of the night - Love it! The watercolours are really wonderful, love the effect. Although I love both soup and pudding, but I can see eating them for 3 weeks can be a bit too much. Glad you are eating other food now.

    -Soma

  57. Ha Cathy, that explains Goldilocks lol! :) Thanks for your comment, I know you just got back from vacation, I hope you join in next week! :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks Soma :) Since I started the layering technique with the watercolours, I've been enjoying it so much more than I used to! I love soup and pudding too, but yeah, 3 weeks is just too much!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Your artwork is amazing Rain! You always make me smile! I would love to enjoy the smoked cheddar and apple cider fondue! Yummy! Big Hugs!
