Thursday Art Date: Transformation and Paint Party Friday

Hello Friends! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Welcome to Thursday's Art Date, today our theme is Transformation. Did you make any New Year's Resolutions? I never do, it doesn't work for me! Though many times each year I love to transform myself with small changes and new ideas.

For those of you who watched the Looney Tunes as a kid, were you as traumatized as I was when you saw "Hyde and Go Tweet"??? Cute, sweet adorable little Tweety Bird transformed into Mr. Hyde in a great episode! I had some anxiety as I drew this lol!

Here's a screenshot of the original short, poor Sylvester!

Raindrops On My Window (Acrylic, Brush and Palette Knife Painting)

A few days ago, I watched the snow turn to freezing rain then to rain. I thought I'd paint some raindrops in acrylic as part of water's great transformation. I followed my Blogger friend Lissa's advice and scanned my painting rather than photographing it. The result is much more realistic - it looks like my painting! Though my scanner is very tiny and cut the edges off, I may have to get a new one in the future! Thanks for the advice Lissa!

All of that rain transformed into snow on New Year's Eve! It's beautiful!

I started art school! I'm so excited. I'm taking a variety of courses and lessons, all about drawing, painting, and the fundamentals of art. My first course is Drawing 101. I even have homework and my instructor does critiques! Until now, I've pretty much been self-taught so I'm starting from the beginning. I'm so excited about this. I want to transform myself into a better artist! ๐Ÿ˜ŠAre you planning to learn something new this year?

Gratitude: online education

The year is 2020. A new decade! Isn't that something?? With this new decade, we have a clean slate, a new door to open, new beginnings...Now is the time to start fresh! ๐Ÿ˜Š

So that's all for now folks! But please check out the link widget below to see more Transformation artwork! And please join me on Sunday for my food and pets post. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

  2. LOVE your painting and am so glad that Lissa's hint worked so well for you.
Have fun with art school. While I am not taking any formal lessons any day where I learn things is immediately made better.
And please, feel free to send some of your rain (and snow) this way.

  3. this little tweety bird is very nice and yet creepy when it gets so big. Yes, I also looked at.
The window picture is great, with which it has proven itself. I keep taking pictures, that is easier for me.
You had at least snow on New Years Eve, it looks so nice.
Great art school but that's all it takes because I used to do it in a painting workshop for years, which was great too.
I am curious what you will tell about the course, have fun with it!
    the Dogs foto very nice!
    have nice Day
    greetings Elke

  4. Hi Rain, good morning! Well, I just got up here! Love your Transformed Tweety! And art school, too, wow, that sounds great, have fun with your lessons, that's a great start to the new year. The raindrops painting is fabulous, so atmospheric, love it. It's not raining here, but looks like it might, it's transformed into uniform grey outside, ugh! We haven't had any snow here yet, but lots of frost and tooooo much rain. And your snow dogs waiting for the off - perfect! Have a great day, hugs, Valerie

  6. Does my long blog post about finishing the back corner of the house count as transformation? Not very arty!

Congratulations on art school! What a great idea. You are already so talented, this will be fun for you and it will be interesting to see you fine tune your art work.

My new new year's thing will be learning haiku. I've challenged myself to write one a day this year. New Year's Challenge: Daily Haiku.

  7. Rain,

Oh that's a good one for transformation! I remember the episode where Tweety bird morphed into a big bad birdy. Congrats on starting art class! That's so cool. I'd like to do this someday, too. Like you, I'm self-taught and would love to learn easier ways to doing things but training the eye the way we have is a good exercise for the brain, I'd think, don't you? Thanks for hosting the fun and here's to nothing but goodness to follow you everyday throughout 2020, my dear!

Something about this really stirs me! WOO!

I am surprised this is your first time at art school. You have a real knack for it then!

I am not sure how this widget thing works...I will try. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a thing to share.

  9. Making a connection here - it wasn't until she was almost an adult that my daughter told me how traumatized she was by that cartoon!! So I guess you're not alone! -Jenn

  12. Awesome Tweety! I used to watch those cartoons when I was a kid. I am happy for you that you have entered art school. You are so talented.

  13. Online art lessons -- so fun! And I'm sure you'll love doing them! I'm taking a beginners watercolour course that starts later this month.

  14. Art school, how wonderful for you. I am sure you will Ace the course. When your work gets put into a gallery showing we will all say "we knew her when....". The rain drop painting is fantastic and very realistic. Your snow looks beautiful but brrrrr cold. Your snow creatures are so cute. Jack's coat looks pretty warm. Charlie and Marlene are lucky to have a natural coat.

  16. Oh Rain... I love that painting of raindrops on your window. Just beautiful! I've been wanting to do something more intentional with art. So far, all I do is come visit your blog. It inspires me, and I think I'm inspired by your pencil drawings to get out a drawing curriculum I bought when my boys were younger and see what it can do for me. Now... If I can just figure out where I put in in our recent reorganizing... ;^)

  17. How beautiful to watch the rain turn to snow Rain, your fur babies looks nice and warm in their winter coats I bet they enjoy jumping around in it.
I too have no time for resolutions, life changes so much day by day but I will continue to promise myself time to play and create even if for a moment each day.
What a wonderful gift to yourself enrolling in the art course I wish you every success and enjoyment during your play time.
When i'm a little more settled, you know how it can be with new puppies etc I hope to come play and join in with your weekly challenges but for now i'd like to wish you, your fur baby family and everyone else a wonderful New Year full of crafting and creativity Tracey xx HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

  18. New Year's Resolution? Right! I didn't even think of it until you mentioned it. Apparently I gave those up so many years ago that I had forgotten them as an option. I have much resolve about this new year, but don't feel like I have much control over what it will bring ... unfortunately for the USA we are dragging all the old ugly stuff right into the new year with us ... I won't elaborate, but I'm sure you can guess what I am referring to. I have had a rough start. My daughter is in the hospital and our little Izzi girl has been sick so I figure it can only go up from here, right? Anyway, I do remember Tweety's Hyde character and like you with a certain amount of stress. We are doing the rain to snow to rain dance here as well ... definitely a transformation. It has been unseasonably warm which I am relishing as I have to take Izzi out more often than usual. Art school ... what a hoot. It never hurts to learn more and keep your mind fresh with ideas, but careful not to lose who "you" are as an artist, because, self taught or not, your art is exquisite. Happy New Year Rain ... looking forward to our visits throughout this year. Wondering what we will come up with ... it sure is fun being a part of your life.

  19. None of the standard resolutions for me either, Rain. Although, I do have a few things I'd like to do differently or stop doing in 2020, and will blog about it soon. I can't recall watching a lot of Tweety Bird cartoons growing up, but then there's a lot I don't remember about childhood. Congrats on the art school class and I was wondering if it's an online course or one held in an actual physical building? I would like to learn more about photo techniques as I've been told I have a "good eye" and realize I can "see" photos better than some others, but it's the nitty gritty camera settings that escape me.

  20. I am so excited for you and your new art "education". I am sure you will learn so much and enjoy meeting lots of artists like yourself. Happy New Year to you and your family!.

  21. Thanks Elephant's Child :) I'm very happy to learn some new skills! I WISH I could send you lots of snow! :(

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks Elke :) So far the art course is going very well! There is a lot to learn, more than I thought! I would love to take a painting workshop, but I live so far from any place that offers it so I'm really happy I can take online courses!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks Valerie :) Tweety scares me lol...I had to close my sketchbook right after I drew him lol! You are right, I'm starting 2020 with a creative bang, I'm so happy about it! :)

  24. Thanks Leigh! :) I'm very excited about this new venture! And yes, your blog post is a transformation for sure! A very realistic one! You and Dan worked so hard on the house, and did such a great job. I LOVE your Haiku challenge!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks Cathy :) That Looney Tunes episode gave me nightmares lol! I like that I'm self-taught as an artist, but I feel like I want to learn better techniques, and more about colour schemes, composition and the proper brushes/tools to use to make my art a little better, that's not the right word, but you know what I mean! I want to grow as an artist and I felt a little stalled lately. The art courses are helping me see beyond what I saw before too!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks Sandi :) I'm so glad you joined in! :) I'm excited for 2020! I feel like whatever monkey was on my back is now gone. :)

  27. Interesting Jenn! I think a lot of kids probably got very scared from watching that short! :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks Joyce :) I think you definitely need a break from cooking!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks Laurie :) I'm super excited about the art school! I'm finding that I need to organize myself better so I can fit everything in, it's a lot of fun for me! I think it's fabulous that you learned braille. That's a big accomplishment!!! There is a website...audibles? Is that it? It has thousands of audio books and I think it's a monthly subscription. Have you heard of it?

  30. Thanks Gigi :) I'm so excited about this new chapter in my life!

  31. Thanks Debra :) Oh awesome! That "layering" technique I was talking about, I used the wrong term, it's glazing. I hope they teach that in your course! It's a really nice effect!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks Marsha :) That's sweet! I wonder if I'll ever have a gallery exhibition! That's something to think about :) Charlie has the thickest coat, she can go out in "eye-lash freezing" weather without a blink!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thanks Sandy :) We have all of the Looney Tunes shorts on a backup hard drive. We watch them a lot, sometimes we stay in bed on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons lol!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks Becki :) LOL...that's funny! I hope you didn't "declutter" the drwaing curriculum! I'm so happy to hear I'm inspiring you to draw. I really hope you dive into it, it's so much fun once you get started. Being creative that way, it feeds the soul too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks Tracey :) I do hope you join in, your art work is so lovely. :) Oh gosh, yes I know how puppies can monopolize your life lol! Even though we got our 3 current dogs as adults, it took about 2 years for them to all settle and be comfy and nap so I could get some art done! The art school is super exciting. It's funny, I never thought I'd be going in this direction in my life! Now I can't imagine my life without it! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks Andrea :) I'm sorry to hear about your rough start to 2020. I hope your daughter and your Izzi are okay. xx Resolutions...nope. :) No time for that! I appreciate your advice! Alex said the same thing, he said not to lose my style as I gain more knowledge. My hopes are to enhance my style, not lose it! It's so much fun so far!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks Dorothy :) I sent you an email btw! The art school is completely online. It's based somewhere in the States. I too want to learn more about photography, this particular site doesn't have anything like that though. I've been watching some You Tube videos on how to photograph my artwork and how to use my camera to its potential. I can't stand reading manuals, it makes no sense to me so I go on You Tube for that. I hope you put that "good eye" to the test and learn more about photography!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks Gloria :) I'm very excited about it! I always wanted to take some courses, but never really thought I'd be good, but I'm just doing it anyway because my love for art has really grown over the years!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love your transformations. I had some ideas but it is so dark and icky here I couldn't get a good photo. Thank you for all the good wishes for my eye.
