Welcome to Thursday's Art Date! Today's theme is Sea Creature. What did you come up with this week?
I have no idea how Sylvester got stranded on such a tiny deserted island...but who are we to question cartoons? :) Tweety Bird is having a good laugh, scaring poor Sylvester with his fake shark fin! (Between us, I think that cat deserves it!) 😊

I had some fun with my oil paints again this week (it's a little dark)! I thought about my Greek Mythology courses many years ago, learning about Sirens and how they lure sailors to their death through song. Many sailors would plug their ears with wax to avoid the Siren Song - which often entranced the entire crew of the ship, leading to shipwreck and death.

And if the shipwreck didn't get the crew, maybe the sharks did! :) I've always been fascinated by Hammerhead Sharks. They may look a little funny, but they are dangerous creatures weighing up to 1000 pounds. They evolved to be better hunters; the placement of their eyes helps them see their prey better. To me, they look very prehistoric. Another good reason why I don't want to swim in the ocean!!!

I tried my hand at acrylic pouring too. If you've never seen/done this, check out this video, it's really quite neat and I intend to do more of it when I have more vibrant paint colours! I did this one with dollar store paints which are kind of dull. But, it was a lot of fun to do! I was originally going to use this as a background for my sharks, but as I kept looking at it, I saw all sorts of sea creatures in it! What do you see? Maybe a Giant Clam or two? :)
More breakfast for dinner: Fart and Dart Beans, Lacy Hash Browns, Homemade Bread and scrambled egg whites. I can't wait to have my own chickens so that I can harvest and prepare my own eggs!
Tuesday's dinner was a Tomato, Ham and Gruyere Quiche. What comfort!
And last night I made a Cannelloni with Besciamella Sauce. We have plenty of leftovers, this was so easy to make and SO tasty!

And...we had a scare the other day. Charlie our husky, decided to hop our SIX FOOT fence, chasing after a cat. Huskies are knows as escape artists and runners...but in the four years we've had her, Charlie has NEVER tried that move before. Luckily Alex and I were out and we ran after her. I called her and she came back like nothing happened. We were furious but relieved at the same time - I couldn't imagine losing one of the dogs...poor Charlie is now tied up any time she's out in the yard.

Oh no ... I know that scary feeling when one of them chases after something cat, deer , squirrel. Charlie is a very good girl for coming back. Daisy our youngest who tries to escape whenever she gets the chance won't let me stop her when something catches her eye...i know she will come back eventually but I am always worried about the road.

I didn't realize huskies are jumpers! I lost a Great Pyrenees the same way. Trouble was, we were his new home but he didn't know it yet. Horrible feeling.

ReplyDeleteThat's just too cute Tweety posing as a shark. I love your comic approach with your first illustration! :) The siren at sea is a furtastic job! I love the texture of the oil paints!! Oooo, your hammerheads are excellent. I sketched a hammerhead this April for my A2Z Little Mermaid theme. Yours are far better than mine. Your last painting with the pouring techniques reminds of what the ocean might look like in its depth where it's super dark and scary. There's no telling what sorts of creatures live that far down. Nope, I'm sticking the ground. . BTW, your linky expires in less than a day. Did you set it up to close quickly on purpose? If so, you may want to consider extending it to a week because personally speaking there have been times when life gets hurried and I miss out linking up. This gives folks more time to play along. Don't worry about it if that's the way you wanna do it, though. Thanks for inspiring me with your artsy challenge!
Beautiful painting! The sea looks very scary and I can imagine sirens tempting sailors to their death! The sharks are beautiful, such strange creatures aren’t they, and yes I see a giant clam! Oh and the food, I want to try the cannelloni recipe! It looks so good! I’m allergic to tomatoes so I’m always looking for pasta recipes without tomatoes lol, That’s a high fence to jump, wow! Glad it ended well! We had a Springer spaniel that was a jumper, kept me on my toes for sure.,

ReplyDeleteBottom right of your sea creature painting, looks like a snake eating an egg... When we lived in Florida, we were out with our Captain friend fishing and I needed to go tinkle. Since we were fishing in shallow water about 3 feet deep, I asked him to pull up to the island and let me off to take care of business... well, he said I should just get in the water, and about that time, here swims by, right where I was going to step off, a 7 foot hammerhead...He was traveling in about 3 feet of water...shocking!!! Lets just say, I never got off the boat into the water again...!!!

Thanks Nik :) Oh gosh I would have freaked out if she didn'gt come back...that's how we found her, she was at the shelter, found in a field. I think she could survive quite well on her own, but we'd miss her so badly. She's tied down from now on.

ReplyDeleteThanks Cathy :) I'll stick to ground too, if water is too dark, I don't trust what's down there! I can swim in the lake and in rivers, but oceans scare me! The Linky, yes, I set it up for 24 hours on purpose to kind of keep to a deadline! I'm glad you made time to share your art!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurie :) Dogs can be flying acrobats at times!! The cannelloni is really good, there are tomatoes in the recipe but you can omit them. Actually the original recipe called for ground beef too, but since we're trying to eat more vegetarian meals, I replaced the beef with mushrooms. The cheesy topping is SO GOOD!!!

At least we know we trained her well to COME BACK...now to STAY is another thing lol...she lost her privileges of roaming the yard without a cord attached to her now though. But OMG...about your hammerhead story, I got chills from reading that oh dear...I've watched that show "River Monsters" too and the creatures that swim in 2-3 feet of water are frightening!! I'm glad you didn't take care of business before you saw that shark!!! :)

We are always watching the dogs...you can't leave them alone for a second, if they see a chipmunk, they dart right in that direction. We know that Marlene and Jack won't try to jump the fences, but that's because of their ages I think! If they were younger, who knows??

Alex got pretty much the entire collection of them from the 30's up until the 1960's and we love to watch them! Bugs is my favourite though! :) I wonder if you'll ever try some painting? :)
ReplyDeleteWow! He's quite the jumper. Happy that you saw him and was able to get him safely home. Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog. I love having a camera in my pocket, now with my new phone, but as you could see the close-up photos of Butchy were grainy, that wouldn't happen with my real camera. Doing a blog from my phone was something to learn and good to know that I could do that, but not as much fun as doing one on the computer . . . a bit frustrating, with less options :)

I will try my best to be on top of that better cause I enjoy doing it. Great job on your paintings. Have you let Michaels folks know that you are doing this?

When Lily Bit got off Moms deck and I spent hours hunting her I just knew I had lost something else I loved. I was so scared. Loving the pic of Jack with the sun rays shinning down on him.

I'm definitely seeing seahorses in the acrylic painting. I always love to see your beautiful pets. I'm so glad that you got Charlie back safely. I bet he hates being tied on. ReplyDeleteHi Connie :) Yes...Charlie is quite the jumper..I don't like it!! I find that close ups on my phone only work if I'm actually very close to the subject/pet/food etc...if I try to zoom in, it's always blurry and grainy. Practice though! It's very handy! I remember when Lily took off, I can definitely relate to that feeling of anxiety, fear and then relief...my pets are like my children!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Louise :) Seahorses...yes! I had to really look at my painting, but I see them...with their long snouts! Great!!! :) Charlie is a typical husky and HATES being tied...but we just can't risk another jump over the fence...I laughed so hard at what you said about being the size of a whale shark lol...good reference to a sea creature hee hee! ;) Honestly, we usually only eat one meal a day. In the morning I'm just a coffee person and we have a yogurt/fruit shake around noon, then dinner. 1-2 days I "fast" (about 700 calories the whole day), I find that zig-zag method of calorie intake works for me. Plus I'm pretty active with the dogs and I exercise every morning too. I learned a long time ago, I'm willing to put in the physical work so I can eat whatever I want! :)
