Sunday Food and Pets Post

Hi Everyone :)

I hope you're all winding up your weekend in a relaxed state! What have you been up to? For me, it's been all about food and pets! I finished Jack's new sweater for the fall. I knit a new one for him every year. Doesn't he look smart? :)

Walking in the woods with the dogs is great in the fall. The air is crisp and there are no bugs!

Baby Oscar likes to nuzzle under the blankets and watch movies on my laptop!

I took out my Canon camera on Friday and got some great photos of the Full Harvest Moon.

I'm really enjoying quiches these days! This one is an Asparagus and Cheddar Quiche. We ate the entire thing in one sitting.

For pizza night, I made a Barbecue Pizza. I've always wanted to try a cheese-stuffed crust pizza so I filled the edges of the dough with Mozzarella.

As you can see (or not) the cheese kind of disappears in the crust, we couldn't even taste it! It was such a fad in the 1990's, I thought maybe it might be as awesome as the Pizza Hut commercials had me believe back in the day - nope! First and last time - mustn't waste cheese now! :)

The second pizza was on my usual Thin Crust Pizza Dough - a Three-Cheese Pizza with Goat Cheese and Tomato Sauce (so technically it has FOUR cheeses in it!) VERY good!!

Here is something really good!! Spicy Tia Maria Kisses. Wow...and honestly they don't even need the chocolate kisses. They are so delicious!!

Last night I made a Chinese Fondue, or Hot Pot. As many of you know, Alex and I celebrate every 14th of the month. Our anniversary is actually March 14th, but we always have a fondue night on the 14th of each month to celebrate a new milestone. Usually it's a cheese fondue, but one of my fondue cheeses will be ready in about a week so we'll have our cheese fondue then (if the cheese turns out good!!!) - fingers crossed!!!

I'm going to make some kind of sandwich for dinner...not sure what yet; but I made some Coleslaw with Old Bay Seasoning as a side dish.

I made it with my Homemade Mayonnaise.

I have a nice no knead bread recipe that I make all of the time - but I've been on the lookout for a good Plain White Bread that I can use for toasting. This one is just okay, but it toasts very well, so I thought I'd share it!

That's my food and pet post for today! :) Alex is getting creative with the bouquets of flowers he's picking for me! He wrapped one of the last wildflowers from the garden with fallen leaves from our maple tree. Autumn is definitely here! See you Thursday for Rain's Art Date!! :)

  2. Oh my goodness! Where to begin? Old Bay seasoning in coleslaw? Inspired! Can't wait to give that a try. And those Spicy Tia Maria Cookies... I checked the recipe and I can see I'd have to leave out the espresso. But then would these just be Snicker Doodles? lol I do love a good soft Snicker Doodle. And I'd never thought of putting a chocolate kiss on one. I bet it would be good.

The photos of the moon are breath taking. I've really got to try harder to get a good harvest moon picture.

The animals are adorable as always. And Jack's sweater! That is so lovely. Green is such a great color for that little sweater. Jack wears it well.

And that flower wrapped in dried leaves. sigh That is just so SO sweet. What a sweetheart Alex must be. :)

  3. wait a minute....woah!!!! look at these photos!!!! did a professional food photographer stop by to visit??? these are fantastic! i am the world's worst at taking food pics. i wonder if the fact that my camera is covered in flour and god knows what else, has anything to do with it? i don't think so..i think i am too impatient to fuss with pics. but maybe you are inspiring me. these are exceptional. my stomach is growling! and jack...omg...could he be any cuter! oscar too!

  4. Jack's new sweater makes him look quite dapper. Those eyes steal my heart everytime. Baby Oscar is Adobe too. Just how old is "baby" Oscar? The photo of the sunset is gorgeous. Your food all looks yummy. Sorry to hear the cheesey crust did not turn out. I wonder if the Pizza places used mozzarella sticks in their crusts. Those cookies look very yummy. Is there such a thing as decaf espresso? That is the only way I could use it since I am allergic to caffeine. Have you tried pinterest for white bread recipes?. That is where I finally found one for my bread machine.Gosh...now I am hungry....better go make our dinner.

  13. I know that I always comment that I would love to come and eat at your place....why? The food looks amazing but you use a lot of bread like stuff! You see if I am asked what is the best type of meal I am going to tell you baiscally anything you can slap between two pieces of bread. Fastest way to say, I LOVE BREAD! I LOVE ANY KIND OF BREAD used on a meal. Now if I can't have my carbs that way then I will shoot for carbs and sweets.....COOKIES! Everything looks yummy and Jack is really showing off in that sweater!

  14. Rain,

I love your harvest moon photos - nice job!

Pizza Hut pizza is one of my weaknesses. Every other weekend, I'll order two large stuffed pizzas; one supreme and one meat-lovers both with extra marinara sauce with some toppings adjusted (+/-). Mmm, your coleslaw looks good! I'm very interested in your homemade mayo recipe so I will be sure to check that out. Have a good week, darlin' friend!

  15. well i enjoyed this post - has a lot of the things I like in it - especially the pizza - and I use to love Pizza Hut cheese crust...oh yeah! The cookies look delicious , your doggy sweater is cute and anyway - i love fall and your harvest moon photos - which I couldn't see the moon from where I live - too many trees in the way and I didn't feel like going down to the lake for a better view but I did see some beautiful photos of it.

  16. That's great Sandi :) That means I've done my job! :)

  17. Thanks Becki :) I had to look up Snicker Doodles, I've heard of them and yes, these are along the same line! They such good cookies - already gone! :) Jack loves wearing his sweater, he wears it all day long!

  18. Thanks so much Joyce :) I'm trying to take better photos. I figure, I put so much effort and love into my cooking and baking, I want to make sure I showcase it the same way! :)

  19. Thanks Marsha :) "Baby" Oscar is 4 years old, but even if he were 14, he'd still be Baby Oscar because he's the youngest of the 6 pets! :) Yes, there is such a thing as decaf espresso! I'm sure you could omit it completely in this recipe, but I think it adds a nice hint of flavour. I have to get back to Pinterest...usually I browse there more often during the winter.

  20. Thanks TB :) The Moon was so beautiful that night!

  21. Thanks Dino :) I'm SO ENVIOUS of your pumpkin news!!! I hope they stay healthy too and grow big! I have all of my eggs in one pumpkin basket this season, sigh...but one is better than none! I hope you find some time to relax after such a busy harvest season!

  22. Thanks Baili :) I'll give Jack extra hugs from you! The weather here lately has been so nice. But I'm getting up extra early these days (in the dark) so it's been quite chilly. Time for winter coats very soon! I love the walks in the woods. It really starts my day well. Thanks for your comment! xx

  23. Thanks Kristina :) That quiche is so delicious! I made it with the frozen asparagus I've had since the spring and it's really good. I think fresh would be better though.

  24. Thanks Jan :) I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

  25. Thanks Pam :) Bread...I LOVE it as much as you do! With melted cheese please. :) Cookies too! :) Jack loves to wear his sweater and he's quite a good model! :)

  26. Thanks Cathy :) I kind of miss the days of pizza deliveries! We can't get that here but it's just as well! It inspires me to make lots of different pizzas. The coleslaw is really great, but I think that red cabbage might make it a little sweeter. The green cabbage had a bit of a tang to it. But that's up to your palate!

  27. Thanks Sandy :) We're lucky here, we can always see the Moon at night, it's the sunrises and sunsets we can't see very well. We could also go down to the lake to see them, but yeah...I get lazy lol.

  30. Your posts and photos are always gorgeous. The food, the scenery, the animals. But you must stop with the food as it ALL looks so good it makes me hungry! We love quiche here, also, and since I have a nice stash of asparagus from our garden in the freezer, that will be in our quiches this winter, too.

  31. Thanks Mama Pea :) Sunday posts are dangerously full of good yummy food alright! :) I found the asparagus to be a little soggy when I defrosted it, but it worked well in the quiche. I would still prefer fresh though!
