We ran into many problems with the work done on the house...the roof, the spray foam insulation, the installation of the basement door...I'm dealing with all of that now. Why must it be so difficult? I can't even visualize 300 lbs of tomatoes, and if canning them means that I have to eat pasta sauce in one guise or another for the whole year I don't want to! As for home renovations or repairs, I have found that really doing some research on the contractor pays dividends and resisting the temptation to go with the lowest price is always a good thing. Low prices often means low quality work using second rate material. I hope that everything gets resolved for you, Rain, and that in the end the job is what you were hoping for. It can be stressful dealing with this as you say.

ReplyDeleteSadly, my father many years ago referred to a house as a money pit. In all of the intervening years, I have not found him to be wrong.
ReplyDelete300 lbs of tomatoes! I am curious how long these will last you - this could be a good marker for planning purposes.
Oh Dear Rain ... I have learned after years of experience with projects to expect the worst and if it doesn't happen, I can be pleasantly surprised :) Rarely do things go as planned ... sorry you are having to deal with so much and then canning the mother load of tomatoes at the same time. Take your time coming back ... we still have a little bit of you and that is good for now :) I plan to do your Bear video and maybe even venture into making Mozzarella cheese. I have never made my own cheese, so no promises, but I am actually thinking about it :) I chuckled when I saw you were doing car maintenance. I used to do my own car maintenance, but the cars became so complicated and computerized, I stopped. I do appreciate your video though and hope I never need it, but now I will know what to do :) Thank you ... once again :)

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that you have run into all these problems with your renovations. I often find that things seldom go straight and there's always a bump or two in the road. We're getting a new roof next week and I wonder what problems will arise then.
ReplyDeleteHome renovations can be a bane for so many and stressful not to mention costly. Hopefully, Rain, the issues you briefly mentioned in this post will be resolved without too much more inconvenience. How you can manage to fit in all that canning with your other projects always amazes me, my blogger friend. And, the car maintenance tips are another bonus now!
ReplyDeleteMozzarella cheese is a favorite here in caprese salad with tomatoes and basil, but I don’t expect that we will be making our own, but the video of how we could was interesting.
Just wondering about freezing milk, how long does it them take to defrost in the fridge?
It must be so frustrating with home repairs. I know the few we've done have tested my mettle.
