πŸŽ¨πŸ˜‹ Thursday Art and Dinner Date: Hair

First Potato Harvest of 2022!

This is a scheduled post - see you next Thursday!!!

Welcome my Friends, to Thursday's Art and Dinner Date! 😊😊

🎨For our 🎨 Art Date 🎨, today's optional prompt is Hair. Please feel free to share any art you've created, we would love to see it!

Here is a renovation update. This is a photo of the spray foam that's now on my basement walls. It's an insulating spray foam, vapour barrier and fire retardant all in one. Another plus is that it plugs up all holes, so that insects (eek) can't get in! It almost looks like stucco for those who know what that is.

We spent weeks preparing the basement for this, I think the entire month of August was dedicated to that task. We were lucky to have pretty much a blank canvas down there. After my carpenter friend Doug rebuilt the wall and put the new door and window in, we were ready for the spray foam company to do the job.

The basement was unusable for weeks because it took a long time for the spray foam to "cure" and dry. The smell was a bit overwhelming! The basement is now ready for a floor and walls, but we had to put that on hold because we got a shockingly high plumbing bill - three times the estimate at $1600 plus taxes. After some argument they knocked off $350 but we are still over budget, so continuing the basement renovation will have to wait until next year. 😟 We'd planned to do the entire basement build ourselves, which will save us lots of money, but that plumbing bill put a quick stop to that!

Disappointment: The spray foam company sprayed over all of those new expensive plumbing fixtures, including a valve that turns the outdoor spigot on and off. I nearly cried when I saw this. This isn't something that easily comes off. It's going to take a lot of work to clean these fixtures and pipes.

Here's the thing. Beggars can't be choosers; and I say this because I qualified for a low income housing program from New Brunswick Power. The basement was done at no charge to me. It's a wonderful program and even though they messed it up a bit, my power bill will definitely be reduced. When the inspector came I showed him the fixtures and he said he'd try to fight for us, but we may just have to live with it. But you know what? I got my basement insulated for free! If I had to pay for it, it would have cost about $5000. I'm trying to focus on feeling grateful instead of the plumbing fixtures!

On the video front:

For Rain Frances Art, I recorded a short, How To Draw Speedy Gonzales! (A "short" is a video recorded vertically and under 1 minute)

My own tomatoes are finally growing! I don't know if they'll have enough time to grow large and red before the first frost though! I'll surely be making fried green tomatoes this harvest season!

This is a scheduled post, I'll be back in October!

I decided to do a series of 3 videos, the first is Canning Tomatoes 101. I explain everything from finding your tomatoes to storing them.

⬆️⬆️ In video #2 of the series, I show you How To Water Bath Can Tomatoes from start to finish. 164 pints later...I am all tomato'd out that's for sure! But now I have food for a year! That was my goal and I achieved it! David, it's more than pasta dishes! I make pizza sauce, enchilada sauce, tomato soup, salsa and spaghetti sauce! ☺

Thursday Art and Dinner Date: Apples!

Welcome my Friends, to Thursday's Art and Dinner Date! 😊😊 I scored a few πŸ˜Š tomatoes this week from a local farm; and I'm up to my eyeballs in canning them! This is the most I've ever attempted, but I think this will keep us very well supplied for the next year!

We ran into many problems with the work done on the house...the roof, the spray foam insulation, the installation of the basement door...I'm dealing with all of that now. Why must it be so difficult? I hope to be back to Blogger in the next few weeks! Thanks for all of your lovely comments and to those who have linked in!! ♥

🎨For our 🎨 Art Date 🎨, today's optional prompt is "Apples". Please feel free to share any art you've created, we would love to see it!

πŸŽ¨πŸ˜‹ Thursday Art and Dinner Date: Mazes

This is a scheduled post! We had to pack ourselves and the pets up and leave the house for a few days while the basement was spray-foam insulated! The great thing about spray foam is that it's also a vapour barrier and a fire retardant!

Hello my friends! 😊 Welcome to Thursday Art and Dinner Date! Today our optional theme is Mazes! As renovations continue, I will be missing in action until mid-September from Blogger. But please join in with your art and food posts and share with our lovely community!

πŸŽ¨πŸ˜‹ Thursday Art and Dinner Date: Figure Drawing and Pizza!

Welcome my Friends, to Thursday's Art and Dinner Date! 😊😊

🎨For our 🎨 Art Date 🎨, today's optional prompt is "Figure Drawing". Please feel free to share any art you've created, we would love to see it! Daffy Duck decided to let his hair down and let me draw his figure, he's looking pretty sexy! 😊😊

Taking time to draw is my happy place...life is so busy and chaotic these days! I love Arnold Schwarzenegger! I know him as an actor, not a politician! During his body building days, he had a very chiseled physique. I thought it would be perfect for this week's prompt. I drew this based on the photo I found during his Mr. Olympia and Mr. Universe days. I used ink and graphite pencils.

⬆️⬆️ πŸ˜‹For our πŸ˜‹ Dinner Date πŸ˜‹, I made homemade pizza margherita! I made the dough, the sauce and the cheese!!! (Recipe and video will follow in a few weeks!)

⬆️⬆️ I recently treated myself to a juicer too, I made a delicious carrot and apple juice!

On the video front:

⬆️⬆️ For Rain Frances Art, I recorded "Painting Therapy: Abstract Painting!"

⬆️⬆️ For Rain Frances Art For Kids, I have "How To Draw Marshmallows!"

⬆️⬆️ For Rain's Kitchen and Garden, I'm sharing a video showing you How I Brush My Dogs' Teeth!

⬆️⬆️ Because of the renovations, there are spots in the basement that are open and I've been catching SO many mice...I have a live trap and I catch and release them. I let them go in the blueberry fields. So far (as I type this) I've caught 27!!

⬆️⬆️ And I finally edited my video: "Harvesting, Dehydrating & Blending Garlic Scapes Into Garlic Scape Powder!!"

⬇️ BEFORE:

⬇️ AFTER:

⬆️ The basement wall is done! My carpenter friend Doug came and built it, installed the new window and door, and he was good enough to help put the vinyl siding back up! I just have to give it a good wash and it'll look just like new! Plumbing is this week...hopefully next week is insulation!! ☺ Then I think it's harvest time!!!

πŸŽ¨πŸ˜‹ Thursday Art and Dinner Date: Cartoons and Caricatures & Watermelon Agua Fresca!

Welcome my Friends, to Thursday's Art and Dinner Date! (Posted on Wednesdays!) 😊😊

🎨For our 🎨 Art Date 🎨, today's optional prompt is "Cartoons and Caricatures". Please feel free to share any art you've created, we would love to see it! I caught Bugs Bunny last Saturday night at his restaurant. He was kind enough to take some time to pose for me!

I attempted a self-portrait caricature, but it turned out more like a cartoon so I decided to add colour! I watched a tutorial on how to draw a caricature, but I have to say it went a little over my head! Have any of you tried this? This is my face for Nicole's Friday Face Off! I'm also joining Gillena for her Art For Fun Friday post!

πŸ˜‹For our πŸ˜‹ Dinner Date πŸ˜‹, I made a really refreshing Watermelon Agua Fresca! This is so delicious, especially on a hot summer day. It's a great "mocktail" and so easy to make!

On the video front:

⬆️ For Rain Frances Art, I recorded How To Paint A Starry Night Sky! This is another Bob Ross style acrylic painting lesson - so easy and a lot of fun!

⬆️ For Rain Frances Art For Kids, I have How To Draw A Panda Bear!!

⬆️ For Rain's Kitchen and Garden, I'm sharing How To Make Watermelon Agua Fresca.

⬆️ I also recorded a Video during one of the walks with the dogs last week!

⬇️ Below I have 3 "before" shots of the basement inside wall.

⬆️ I did all of the prep work. I had to remove all of the pink insulation, hard Styrofoam insulation, vapour barrier and spray foam that seemed like it was CRAZY GLUED around the garage door. It was quite a job but I'm proud that I got it all done by myself! I'm really learning a lot about my home and how to take care of it! 😊

⬆️ I also had to remove the vinyl siding from the outside wall. This was very hard on my hands, but I managed to get it all done in about 2 hours.

⬆️ I may have to replace the sheathing material because there were parts where it was all ripped up (to the right of the broken door). An update might be due, this house was put together over 30 years ago.

⬆️ Day 3 had me realizing that the week ahead of rain might soak the wood on my wall because the sheathing was ripped up. So I decided to cover the entire area with tarp.

⬆️ I wrapped the tarp around long pieces of lumber and stapled it on. Then I installed hooks on the top and screws in the walls. This will make it easier for me to remove and replace the tarp when needed. I also used the vinyl siding with some rocks and my bird seed cans to secure the bottom. There's a little overlap in the middle so I can get out from the garage door.

Good thing I did this because we had MONSOON rains yesterday and Doug couldn't make it, he was worried the lumber might get soaked. But he's here today and I'll update you more next week!

⬆️ I have basically moved my office and studio into my screen tent. I spend as much time outside as I can because our winters are so horribly long and cold! I always bring the pets with me! ⬆️ Here's Jack!

⬆️ And Raven, you can really see her brace and harness in this photo!

⬆️ And Baby Oscar! I used to leave Oscar inside because I was afraid he'd scratch up the screen, but he really just wants to hang out with his pack, so he comes out with us! He's such a good boy! πŸ’—

I hope you're all well and enjoying life!! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–
